PUNK: Chaos to Couture
This spring The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art will be exhibiting PUNK: Chaos to Couture. The exhibition will be on view from May 9-August 14,2013. It will examine punk's impact on high fashion from the movement's birth in 1970 through it's continuing influence today. Kristin, shared her favorite looks from the The Costume Institute Benefit earlier this week. When I found out about this exhibit a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to see it immediately. This summer I will plan to make a trip to NYC to visit it.
There will be 7 galleries and each one will have designated punk "heroes"who embody the broader concepts behind the fashions on view. The exhibit I want to see most is the D.I.Y. Hardware: it focuses on couture's use of studs, spikes, chains, zippers, padlocks, safety pins and razor blades. This sounds like our spring Heavy Metal collection which uses a lot of hardware.
I am only showing pics of 2 exhibits, but there are many more exhibits to get more info check out the website www.metmuseum.org
