Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog almost a year ago. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Wednesday I attended career day at Columbus Africentric Middle School. Christina and I spoke with six classes about fashion styling and the process of creating fashion/jewelry collections. We had a great time with the kids! Afterward I spent time with my mom and did a small amount of work. This is what I wore.
I love to pattern mix! I paired a army green floral camouflage pencil skirt with a army green and white pin stripe/diamond pattern oxford shirt. The skirt and shirt are both thrift store purchases from Valley Thrift Store in Dayton. The shirt is by Geoffrey Beene and I paid $0.99 for it and the skirt is by Leslie Fay and was $1.99. My look before accessories was just under $3.00. This may be my cheapest outfit to date. To find similar skirts check out these options: skirt 1, skirt 2 and skirt 3.

My belt came from a seller on etsy. I love it but I have only worn it a few times now. It is black leather with gold and silver metal tiles. It is a vintage 80's belt by Jose Cotel Paris. The necklace is a thrift store purchase made of leather and metal. I forget where I found it. Find lots of great leather necklaces here.
I was really feeling my inner rock star so I pinned my hair into a mohawk and accessorized with a lot of my leather and studded accessories. The sunglasses are vintage Liz Claiborne. Find similar sunglasses here.
The green lucite ring came from Forever 21 and the black and white marble ring is from a vendor at the Macy's Festival. My 'arm party' bracelets include: snake bracelet from etsy, 'Kalahari bangle' and 'Artemis cuff' from Stella & Dot and the alligator 'Creature cuff' by Tasha from Nordstrom.
My metallic studded oxfords are by Sam Edelman. They are called the 'Jayden' oxford. They are very comfortable.
This concludes another Kris's Closet. What do you think about my pattern mixing look?
Thank you so much for stopping by!

Style Crush

Over the weekend I received my June issue of Elle. I am always so excited when I receive something other than a bill in the mail. So, I spent my Memorial Weekend indulged in fashion,  a little reggae and the occasional cook out. There were a few articles that caught my eye, but the "New Designer" column struck a chord with me. I always flip through magazines and look at all of the pictures first, earmark the articles of interest and then go back and read. I immediately ear marked the page featuring these amazing dresses.

As soon as I began to read the article I knew that I wanted to feature this designer in today's Style Crush. Josep Font is the creative director for Delpozo, he actually went to school for architecture to "please his parents", but he always had a love for fashion. While in school he managed to squeeze in fashion and pattern-design courses at FD Moda in Barcelona. The pictures shown are apart of the Fall 2013 collection, you will see optical-illusion patterns, exaggerated, scalloped 3-D pleats and unusual color combinations, such as salmon with plum and ChristinaKristin signature colors hot pink and red.

Photos courtesy of : www.delpozo.com

I had to get a close up on these immaculate details. I love the way these multi-colored blooms snake up high heeled booties and onto handbags,as well as the way the flower and butterfly appliques adorn evening wear. This collection is definitely for the WEALTHY being priced anywhere from $500 for knit tops to $11,000 for embroidered silk gowns. Although, I won't be purchasing, I am very inspired by this designer and will continue to follow him.

What are your thoughts on this collection?

Until Next Time, Ciao!

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog almost a year ago. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Sunday I went riding around with my guy and we ended up at Buckeye Lake. We stopped at the Buckeye Lake Museum where they were having a 15 year anniversary party with food, drinks and live music. Then we took a free boat tour ride around the lake on Queen of the Lake, also part of the anniversary celebration. I love when we luck up on a free and fun activity not far from home! There is always something in Ohio to do, believe it or not. After the boat ride we had dinner at the Island House and ice cream at Weldon's. I took my photos at the end of the day just before we lost the sunlight and headed home. This is what I wore.
I wanted to be comfortable and layered because the weather was a little cool and I knew I would likely end up in the country and somewhere where there was water. I put on an ribbed tank dress I have had a few years now from Target. I wore it once before on a closet post. I originally paid $15 for it. It's by Mossimo.
Find similar beater dresses at American Apparel. The over-sized colorful floral cardigan is from a thrift store in Circleville, Ohio. I paid $6 for it. The brand is HMJ.
My necklace is from an Ohio Thrift Store. I paid $8 for it. The sunglasses I am wearing are by Betsey  Johnson. I found them for under $20 at Nordstrom Rack a few years ago near Detroit. They are the BJ215 Raven/Emerald Wayfarers. Find them online here.
It was time to bring out my white Multi-colored Alma. It is one of my summer bags. It was my graduation gift from my dad in 2005 from Fashion Design school. My bracelets are a mix of  bamboo, leather and metal. I am wearing the alligator 'Creature Cuff' by Tasha from Nordstrom. The 'Kalahari Bangle' and the 'Artemis Cuff' by Stella & Dot. The Bamboo bracelets are from the Valley Thrift Store.
My slide in wedges are also second hand. I bought them from a church treasure sell in Bexley a few weeks ago for $2.50. They are Kenneth Cole Reaction.

This concludes another Kris's Closet. What do you think about my look?

Thursday's Inspiration

Turquoise & Fuschia

Recently I noticed that I wear these two colors together a lot, turquoise and fuschia. I never realized that pairing these two colors together is actually quite popular, especially for weddings.  Because both of these colors are so bold, I generally wear them in color blocks and not necessarily in pattern.

These are just some items that inspired me as I perused the net. Last spring, our "Cotton Candy" collection featured turquoise and fuschia knit pieces. And one of my favorite Stella & Dot pieces that I own, has these two popular colors as well.

Check out my etsy treasury for more inspiration!

Do you have signature colors that you wear?

Until Next Time, Ciao!

Style Crush

Zoe Saldana

This week's Style Crush is featuring Star Trek's starlet Zoe Saldana. I've always been a fan of Ms. Saldana as far as acting, her style never really impressed me. But lately, she has been pretty stylish. Her body shape is very similar to mine very lean and she has long limbs, I could totally mimic her style.

Photos courtesy of : www.essence.com
Her silhouette in these 3 looks is what attracted me to them. Because of her small stature she can completely pull off all of the fabric that is around her waist and hips. Her shoes in all 3 are super chic as well. If she keeps this look up, she may become my new style icon!

Who is your Style Crush? I would love to know!

Sunday I spent the evening in Bremen, Ohio. Last minute the fella and his friend decided to cook out so we ran to the store and got on the road to Leo's friend's place in the country. We sat outside on his porch and deck and enjoyed our ribs and brew. I took these photos all around his land. This is what I wore.
It was warm Sunday but since I was going to the country, I covered up to limit my exposure to bugs. The safari blouse I wore is from the thrift store. The brand is not familiar to me but it is Craig Clothing Co. I paid $0.99 for the shirt at the Valley Thrift Store in Dayton. Find a similar blouse here.My skinnies are my favorite by Paige. Find my jeans here.
I wore this straw bucket hat to keep the ticks and spiders out of my hair. I have heard many horror stories so I wanted to be safe and save myself from acting a darn fool, running around and screaming like an idiot. The straw hat is from a thrift store in Circleville, Ohio. Find a similar one here. My necklace is a closet post repeat. I bought it last year during a Style Adventure for $0.25 at Chesterville Flea Market. It is one of my favorite pieces.
My studded belt is from the Ohio Thrift store. I found a similar belt here. The clutch is a closet post veteran, I bought it last summer at Buffalo Exchange in Chicago. It is by Bag Bazaar. I found a similar clutch here. The bracelets from top to bottom are the 'Kalahari Bangle' by Stella & Dot, the alligator 'Creature Cuff' by Tasha from Nordstrom, and the 'Artemis Cuff' by Stella & Dot. Both of my rings came from a vendor at the Macy's Music Festival a few years ago.
The studded oxfords are by Not Too Coy. I bought them from zappos.com a while ago. Find similar shoes here.

This concludes another Kris's Closet. What do you think about my safari look?

This Month's Obsession

This Month's Obsession!!!

Often I see a trend or an accessory that takes over my mind. I see it, I fall in love with it and then I obsess about it. Once the feeling hits me, I go into research mode then I must have it, so I buy it. Then I buy it again in three more colors or variations in styles. Yes, if I love it then I need to have options and options. Then soon after, I have moved on to a new love. Today my obsession is...

Art Deco & the 1920's!!!
Art Deco isn't entirely a new love for me but I have been paying even more attention to it since I saw the Great Gatsby movie. I did a post last week on the costume designer and brands that were a part of the movie.  I have done a lot of research since then. I was determined to find some fun, yet affordable items to incorporate this trend into my wardrobe.  I had success in finding items that were fun, but the majority of them were also under $100.  I used the movie and the spring 2012 collections of Oscar de la Renta, Etro, Gucci and Ralph Lauren for inspiration.

Spring 2012 Collections of Gucci, Ralph Lauren & Etro
Fun fact: Last year's spring collection was not Ralph Lauren's first time designing Gatsby inspired looks. He was responsible for the costumes designed in the original Great Gatsby movie released n 1974 with main characters Jay Gatsby and Daisy played by Robert Redford and Mia Farrow.

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog almost a year ago. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Sunday I rode to Cleveland with Leo to see a client. He had an estimate to do and I had some unfinished mother's day shopping to wrap up. He dropped me off at the Beachwood Place Mall and he went off to do his estimate. Once we both finished our tasks we had an early dinner at Zocalo Mexican Grill downtown Cleveland. I had a very interesting yet delicious mango & avocado margarita. When I got back to Columbus, I went to see my mom and drop off her goody bag. I took these photos outside Zocalo. This is what I wore.
It was a chilly Mother's Day especially in Cleveland, so I made sure to wear layers. I revisited a piece of my fall/winter wardrobe to stay comfortable in the fifty degree weather. The navy and silver paisley shirt I paid $0.99 for at the Valley Thrift Store in Dayton. Here are some cute paisley button-ups here and here. The orange and navy hounds-tooth jacket is from the Ohio Thrift Store. I bought it a few years ago for a few dollars. Since the jacket isn't a spring season jacket, it was hard to find anything similar. I am wearing my boyfriend, Leo's Levi's for a looser fit jean.
These earrings are from our Heavy Metal Collection. They are made of wire, metal beads, springs and washers. Visit our etsy shop to see more of this collection.
The purse is the Michael Kors 'Hamilton East/West Satchel'. I got it from Zappos. The alligator leather cuff bracelet is the 'creature cuff ' by Tasha from Nordstrom. The wire bracelet, I have had a long time and I forget where it is from. Find a similar bracelet here.
The  metallic oxford shoes my mom bought me from Nordstrom. I love that they carry two spring trends, studs and cutouts. They are the Sam Edelman 'Jayden' oxford. I love them, they are very comfortable.

This concludes another Kris's Closet. What do you think about my modern 70's look?

Style Crush

Stella Jean

Today's Style Crush features a designer that I have been internet stalking for at least the past 6 months. I came across this designer thanks to facebook, I think her fan page popped up in my ads. I quickly liked her page and now read everything the designer posts. The line is called Stella Jean, the model turned designer is half-Italian, half-Haitian. Her ethnic background has inspired her clothing line mixing East African prints with a modern aesthetic.

Stella Jean launched her first collection in July 2011, after the designer won a contest sponsored by Vogue Italy AltaRoma:'Who's on Next'!  "Stella's designs marry draping in the style of Vionnet with an understanding of the importance of shaping the dress directly on the body: "because the body has three dimensions, we cannot trust the paper". When you see her work you will see the immaculate attention to detail, alright I'm going to stop talking so you can see this work of art for yourself!

 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Friday was date night with Leo. We had dinner at Park Creek Kitchen in Upper Arlington then we went to see The Great Gatsby. It was opening night so it was crowded but I enjoyed the movie. The wardrobe was incredible! I took these photos outside of the theater. This is what I wore.
My shirt and blazer are both second hand. The butterfly button-up is from Mad 4 Mod. I bought it for a dollar. Find a similar butterfly shirt here. The blazer is a vintage piece that a friend bought me from etsy. I believe it was under $20. Find similar jackets here and here. My skinnies are by Paige.
My butterfly earrings I got from a suburb of Chicago at a thrift store for $0.75. Find some similar butterfly earrings here. I got the necklace from a flea market in Kentucky for $15.
My patent leather purple handbag is by Charles David. My mom bought it for me from Nordstrom one year for my birthday. The pearl bangle bracelet is from the Valley Thrift Store in Dayton. It was $1.99

The blue suede shoes with wicker heels , I wore last week in a closet post. They are by Costume National. I could not locate anything similar online.

Fashion Rolling (Take 2! The Great Gatsby)

FASHION ROLLING!
Every week we see things on television shows and movies that inspire us. I am always looking to some of these shows and movies to keep me updated on trends in fashion and beauty. In this segment I will do a recap on what I saw the week before that inspired me on television or film. This will touch on fashion topics from wardrobe, home and beauty trends.

Take 2!!!

The Great Gatsby

This past Friday, May 10th, I was in line with a couple hundred people waiting for the doors of the Lennox AMC theater screen 1 to open.We filed into the room one at a time and up to the fast shrinking open seating. I settled for a seat much lower than I would normally, do to a very obvious sold out show. I'd been waiting for this movie for a long time. I'd read the book, seen the original movie and had great hopes for this remake. The costumes were what I was most excited about and I was not disappointed. An all star team, costume designer Catherine Martin and well known designers/brands Miuccia Prada, Brooks Brothers and Tiffany & Co, brought this movie to life and made a room full of movie goers feel what it must have been like to live in the roaring 1920's. The glamour was like nothing I have seen in my time. Ladies looked like ladies and gentlemen looked like gentlemen. To be well dressed, well that must have the norm according to the feel of the movie. I loved the modern twist with the fashion and music.

( The Great Gatsby Collections)

Another thing I love about this costume team is that they have made the wardrobe available for the public. If you go to each brand's website or stores, you can see, learn about and purchase these items that you saw on the screen. I can't afford it, but a girl can dream.

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Sunday I attended the wedding of my fella's niece. It was a beautiful outside wedding at a park facility. The weather was beautiful and I was happy to be there. I love weddings especially when I am not in them. I took these photos at the wedding during the reception. This is what I wore.

I am very proud of this look because it is a very inexpensive outfit. The jacket and skirt are thrift store purchases. The colorful paisley jacket is surprisingly by Coldwater Creek. I am not a fan of this brand but I have learned that even the most conservative of brands can surprise you. I paid $6.99 for this jacket at the Valley Thrift Store in Dayton. Find similar jackets here at option 1 and option 2.  The tie-dye look stripe pleated skirt is also from that same thrift store. The brand is Elle and I paid $4.99 for it. I could not find anything similar that wasn't under $200 to post. The top under my jacket is just a black beater. I bought it in a pack of three from Bed Bath & Beyond. I'd say one beater is $3.33 out of a $10 pack. This look before my accessories was about $15.31.

Now my accessories are another story. My glasses are Fendi. They were my gramsey Nolan's, so I did not buy them but the lenses have been replaced. They had her bifocal prescription in them and I had them replaced with my own prescription. I swear by See Eyewear for those who are searching for quality frames and lenses at a good price. The necklace is the Lillith Fringe Necklace by Stella & Dot.
I am excited about my Urban Safari 'arm party'. My bracelets are from several places. The snake in the front is from a seller on etsy ( here is the same snake bracelet in gold), the second and fourth bracelets are from Stella & Dot. They are the 'Kalahari Bangle' and the 'Artemis Cuff'. The third gold and pearl bracelet  is a stretch bracelet that I found at the Valley Thrift Store, again Dayton. The last bracelet is the Alligator 'Creature Cuff' by Tasha from Nordstrom. The pearl vintage ring is a purchase from a vintage shop in Attica, Ohio. My straw clutch is from the Buffalo Exchange in Chicago.Online I found a similar clutch.
I love these shoes. They are some of my favorite shoes but I don't get to wear them often enough. They are blue suede with gold and beige leather trim and wicker heels. The brand is Costume National, an Italian couture brand shoe that I found in New York at Century 21.

This concludes another Kris's Closet. What do you think about this look?
