The Last Word by Karen

Think Pink

Pink is a pale red color most commonly associated with charm, politeness, sensitivity, tenderness, sweetness, childhood, the feminine and the romantic.  Pink was first used as a color name in the late 17th century.

Shorter Oxford English Dictionary, Oxford English Dictionary online.

Shades of pink include blush, coral, fuchsia, hot pink, magenta, raspberry, rose and salmon.

Ellen DeGeneres plays a game on her show with guest called "Never Have I Ever." If the question was asked, as a little girl or adolescent did you wear pink?, my answer would be "I have never."

Most little girls love pink.  As a child I was never a fan of pink. I remember always wearing red, white, a combination of the two and bright yellow. All of the pictures from my formative years bear witness to my mothers color choice. Both my mother and I are members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., whose colors are red and white. I asked  mom once why she always dressed me in red and white and she informed me that her color choice for my clothing was not based on her affiliation. Mom felt that pink washed me out and that the vibrancy of red better suited my personality. When Easter came around my Easter dress was red, my bonnet white, no pink for me.

This spring my  favorite shopping spot, White House Black Market, featured various shades of pink in their spring clothing offerings.

My Picks!!!

The White House Black Market shirt flatters the pant that it is paired with.  In addition, the shirt can be worn with the Vivetta Tobia Polka Dot Pencil Skirt.

1. Tie Blouse White House Black Market (old)
2. Color-block Skirt Ted Baker London from Nordstrom (sold out)
3. Suede Lace Up Pumps by Sam Edelman

For me pink will be a way to think outside the box, a complete departure from the norm. I will never wear clothing that is predominately pink and definitely not pale pink, but I will add some shades of pink to my black and white. It is always good to introduce new color to your wardrobe or incorporate things you thought you'd never wear,  as long as they are complimentary.

One day at a time!

Chris's/Kris's Closet ( Kristin ) March 7, 2015

Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

I had the pleasure of attending the Grand Opening of The Beauty Boutique on High, this past Saturday. I was proud to be among so many black business women who are making their mark in Columbus, some of which even dominate their particular markets. This was not just a grand opening. With Women's Day barely in the rear-view, the event was a testament to the the strength and fearlessness women share whether we wear it on our sleeves or it's buried deep within. These women are doing something that can be scary and uncertain but they are DOING IT. They are just following their dreams but they don't realize they are also inspiring those around them. There is room for us all to be happy and successful. With that said, lets support and encourage each other whether it be through patronage, positive reinforcement or both. Happy Belated Women's Day!

For information on the services and products at The Beauty Boutique on High, check out their facebook page.

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Christina) CIAA Weekend

Chris's Closet

I am Christina, the hot pink of ChristinaKristin. Welcome to my closet!

This past weekend I took a road trip to Charlotte, North Carolina for CIAA weekend along with my best cousin and very close friend. We trekked the 7- hour trip from Ohio, the drive was not bad at all.  I stayed up pratically the whole time, I was the GPS translator/DJ ensuring that we were going in the right direction, and that we had good tunes to ride to. The trip was a lot of fun, not so much just because of the festivities, but I have family there that I hadn't seen in a while. I got to catch up with my sisters, nephews, and I was able to see my newest niece who is now 1 year old. So, outside of the partying, spending quality time with the fam was so much fun.

The original plan was to attend both day parties and night parties, and since day parties are the highlight of CIAA I was a tad bit bummed that we missed out, but the evening events made up for it. It was cold this past weekend in North Carolina, not as cold as Ohio, but cold enough, and ironically on my day to comeback to Ohio it was 71 degrees in North Carolina, as you are guessing I was a bit ticked about that. Anyway this is what I wore:

Friday:

Blazer: Gibson (Nordstrom
Tank: Mossimo (Target)
Skirt: Xhiliration (Target)
Gloves: Hot Topic ( I think, they are old can't really remember)
Tights: Hair Store
Socks: Hue (Macy's)
Boots: Sam & Libby (Target)
Clutch: Miss Albright (Anthropologie)
Earrings/Necklace: Gifted vintage find

Saturday:
Tank Top: Abound (Nordstrom)
Jeans: insight (Milk Bar, Columbus Ohio)I ripped the jeans myself
Shoes: Steve Madden
Clutch: Vintage
Bracelets/Earrings: ChristinaKristin( left arm:Global Gal Collection coming this spring)
Bracelets/Ring: right arm Stella & Dot

I promise the baby is my niece, we are not holding her hostage lol

Me and the girls!!

Until Next Time,

*Chris*
