Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

I have been celebrating my birthday all of the month of October in spurts. So Saturday I had a full day of activities planned. I started my day with a Breakfast Tour through Columbus Food Adventures with Dr. Breakfast; Nick Dekker: blogger and author of blog and book titled 'Breakfast with Nick'. While on the tour we ran into another one of my favorite bloggers from 'Drink up Columbus', Cheryl Harrison. She writes 'Drunk Brunch' my favorite go to for brunch spots in the city. This is the third year I have done a CFA tour around my birthday. It has become kind of a tradition. It was only right to do a tour this year after earning a free tour for filling up my CFA passport. After the tour was over I met my sister for a movie at Studio Movie Grill in the Arena District where we saw 'Annabelle'. We ended the night with a brain workout through 'Room Escape Adventures', where we participated in 'Trapped in a Room with a Zombie'. We were locked in a room for an hour with ten strangers, where we had to find clues and solve puzzles to find a key to escape the zombie before it could reach us. Look for more on that story on Once Upon A Stylish Life or select Kristin's World in the menu tabs. For now, Check out Saturday's look!

This season, I am all about comfort. I am gravitating toward sweatshirts and sweatshirt like tops. This faux fur with quilted faux leather sleeve sweatshirt was given to me by my mom. It was too big for her. I paired it with a red button-up and a pair of Versace inspired pants that I found at 'Out of the Closet'.

My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Friday I had a a great day with my mom. We checked out the Transfigurations Exhibit at the Wexner Arts Center in Columbus, Ohio. The collection belongs to the Wexner Family; known for bringing us brands like Victoria's Secret. The art collection consists of greats like Pablo PicassoEdgar Degas and Susan Rothenberg;the kind of collection that most people could only dream of owning. This collection featured six famous artists that normally sit on the walls of the Wexner home. They have been collecting the pieces for 40 years.

My mom and I ended our day on the town with a late lunch at Lemongrass Fusion Bistro in the Short North of Columbus and some lite boutique shopping. Since we were doing a little walking, I wanted to be comfortable. My look was centered around being able to wear denim and flats. I'd also just washed my hair and didn't have time to set it, so it became a great day to wear a turban. The blouse is vintage. I thought it would be perfect for the season and it features a fall color trend, Sangria. Check out the look!

Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

I kicked off my Birthday Celebration on Sunday with my nephew. We had brunch downtown in Columbus and saw a matinee of The Lion King Broadway show. The show was something I have been wanting to see for a very long time, so my mom purchased a pair of tickets for my birthday. It was one of the best gifts I have ever received. The show was brilliant and inspiring. The costumes were amazing! I am still singing 'Hakuna Matata'. I want to see it again.

My look was 60s Mod inspired. I am loving this trend for fall. The 60s is also one of my favorite decades in fashion. My mom gave me this tunic/dress because it was too big for her. I belted it and played it up with my accessories. All my metals were antique gold in color. I wore the scarab necklace from the last look I posted:it is pretty versatile. I found the metallic, three tone belt some time ago at a flea market. The round sunglasses felt very 60s with a modern twist. The rounded arch on top of the glasses add a touch of playfulness. The hounds-tooth boots were so appropriate with the chunky heel that also scream 60s. Since the weather was under 60 degrees, I decided to wear my black cape coat. Cape coats were also prevalent during the 60s. My mom told me she had one during that time as a child. Check out my look!

Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them

My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Monday was Columbus Day so my parents decided to take me thrift shopping on their day off. We went to the Short North to check out 'Out Of The Closet'. It is a thrift store whose proceeds benefit HIV/AIDS. They even do free testing at the store. I found some fun items for the Fall/Winter 2014 seasonMost important I got to spend time with my favorite lady, my mom.

Leopard is in again this year. "Ladylike Leopards" were all over the runways for Fall. What's more ladylike than pink leopard? Since the  weather is cooler, I decided to layer my neon pink and off white leopard blouse from summer; with a button-up. Layering is a great way to transition into the cooler seasons. I found these vegan leopard oxfords on the Haute Look website for $14. I had to have them! My look was inspired by my shoes with pieces I already owned.
Army Green Studded Collar button-up: Top Shop (old)
Leopard Blouse: Apt 9 at Kohls (old)
Jeans: Levi's
Leopard Oxfords: Red Circle from Haute Look $14

Rings: I found the large silver/gold ring in Amish Country Flea Market. The gold nugget pinky ring was my sister's when we were little.

Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Sunday I was in Hocking Hills with my guy and his family. We had a picnic at the park and took two hikes together. Afterward my guy and I checked out an art show that was at the Hocking Hills Lodge and then we hiked a path at Conkle's Hollow State Nature Preserve. Conkle's Hollow was my favorite hike. We did the 1/2 mile Gorge Trail which was so full of texture. It was the most beautiful walk I have ever taken. I took a few style photos on the grounds near Old Man's Cave but most of the photos I captured were of the beauty around me. I will share a few at the end of this post. For now, check out my hiking look. This is what I wore.

Just because you are going hiking, doesn't mean you have to wear athletic gear or give up your personal style. I layered a sweat shirt over a button-up shirt. I wanted to be warm and also bring out the small amount of red in my sweat shirt. I think Levi's are the strongest jeans out there. I was sliding down rock surfaces all day and not a thread was broken. Rocky Boots make lots of great work boots for many special jobs like police officers, firemen and and postmen. They also make some of the best hiking boots. I bought this pair on clearance a couple seasons ago from the Rocky Boot Outlet. For my accessories, I threw on a studded beanie to protect my natural hair from bugs and moisture. I finished the look with a pair of gold Quay sunglasses.

Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Friday I had lunch with my mom and her friend. They are both Libras with birthdays just days apart and they exchange gifts every year. They picked Friday to do their gift exchange and have lunch since my mom has retired and they no longer work together. I was just along for the ride and free food. Plus, I really like mom's friend. We have a common love for culture, food and wine. That evening I went to an art exhibit and reception for Jim Arter at the Cultural Arts Center. He is also a friend to my mom and I met him for the first time. I found myself very inspired by his work especially a piece that I thought would translate extremely well to jewelry. I ended the night with my guy. We had a late dinner at home.

For my look, I wanted to wear mostly black because I wanted to wear my black lipstick. I have had this lipstick for three or more years and have only used it in photo shoots. It came from a Mac Collection that had lots of really dark colors. I can't remember the collection name but the lipstick is Midnight Media with Blackfire Glimmer Glass on top, also from that collection. Yes, I based an outfit around a lip color. The lipstick somehow changed my whole attitude for the day. I could not even smile for these photos; it just felt inappropriate. This is what I wore.

Fun Fashion Friday!!!

POP CULTURE PREVAILS

This is the very first 'Fun Fashion Friday'! In these posts I will bring you the playful side of fashion. Fashion doesn't always have to be so serious. I am a big fan of really funky, fun pieces. I admit to loving my fun or bizarre items more than the classic ones; even if some of my friends hate and make fun of them. After all, fashion is about self expression and SHOULD BE fun.
Preen By Thornton Bregazzi & Moschino
It is officially Fall, so I wanted to point out some pieces that got the attention of many of us from the Fall 2014/2015 runways. There were cartoons like Sponge Bob and Snoopy's buddy Woodstock. As if the fun Sponge Bob portion of his collection wasn't enough, Moschino did a brilliant homage to McDonalds. Then there was Star Wars. Preen By Thornton Bregazzi used the image of Darth Vader serveral times in his collection and Rodarte used images of Yoda, Luke Skywalker, and C3PO. Other items I am highlighting are Anya Hindmarch's cereal box clutches and her potato crisp bag. Last but not least; I included another Moschino piece that I fell in love with, a Fruit Loops dress.

MY FUN FINDS

The featured designer collections are not for the faint of heart, or most of our wallets but it is okay to dream. Since I can't afford to spend thousand of dollars on clothes and accessories , I use these collections to inspire me. I try to find items that are affordable with the same kind of feel. I did some searching and found some pieces that are just as fun but for less. I hope you like them as much as I do.

Thank you for stopping by!
Enjoy your weekend!
And remember to be blessed, be free and be fashionable!
