Chris's/Kris's Closet (Kristin) Christmas 2014

Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

I cooked dinner for my family on Christmas Day. My look was mostly covered under an apron for most of the day. My family wanted to do something different, so I made Latin dishes from a few countries. We had chicken and chorizo paella, Mexican shrimp cocktail and South Western salad. Afterward I had more food with my beau's family. We finished the evening driving around the city looking at holiday light displays. This is what I wore.

Saturday I spent the day in Amish Country on the Christmas Cookie Tour of Inns. The 7th annual tour was held Saturday and Sunday. Twelve Amish Country Inns hosted the event and provided beautiful holiday décor for our viewing pleasure in addition to a special cookie to take away or eat if you wanted. I had a big Amish style breakfast and the Inns provided finger foods to eat, so I saved all of my cookies for later. The theme of this years event was 'Twelve Days of Christmas'. All the Inns were assigned one of the twelve days to incorporate into their holiday decorations. I had a great time exploring Amish Country which included a few stops in between the Inns to visit food markets and bakeries. My favorite stop was Broad Run Cheese House & Swiss Heritage Winery. Saturday was foggy but warm so I layered up and left the coat at home. This was my look for my day in Amish Country.

It is getting cold in Columbus,so photo opportunities have become a little hard. Last Friday I took these photos inside before I went to a late lunch with my friend Dee. I have become obsessed with these tees by Accidental Genius Clothing. This is my second post wearing one. In fact in my last post I rocked their Grace Jones 'Strange`' tee; the name of the character she played in the movie 'Boomerang'. This tee is Jasmine guy as 'Whitley Gilbert' from 'A Different World'. I love that the word 'Bougie' is written brightly across the top.  I grew up on the show and was ecstatic about this tee. When I was in my twenties, I looked for tees like these and they just did not exist.

For the look I layered the tee over a button up and paired it with a hot pink zebra stripe Marc Jacobs skirt that I have owned for years now. I thought my Betsey Johnson veiled beanie worked perfect for the look. I completed the look with a pair of over-the-knee Guess boots, a pair of large sterling hoops and a chunky silver bracelet.

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Christina) Halloween 2014

Chris's Closet

I am Christina, the hot pink of ChristinaKristin. Welcome to my closet!

Last weekend, I celebrated Halloween by going to a costume party  at The Boat House at Confluence Park, in Columbus, Ohio. This venue has such an amazing view, it sits near the Olentangy and Scioto Rivers overlooking the downtown Columbus skyline. Needless to say this was a grown-up affair, and the guests were so creative with their costumes. They actually put the fun in Halloween for me. I snapped a pic with a couple of my favorite costumes.

Guess who I decided to dress up as? Janelle Monae! With my natural hair, brown skin and petite frame, I knew I could pull it off. I was in character so well that people did a double take, even asking if I was in costume. Janelle's uniform is so easy, I think anyone could pull it off. Take a look at what I put together.

My inspiration.

This is what I came up with. I actually recreated her look a few years ago, but my hair was not long enough for the pompadour. I was pretty excited that I had no problems with my hair this time.

Kris's Closet

My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Sunday I spent the day exploring Southern Ohio. I spent the most time in two cities that I had not visted previously, Bainbridge and Portsmouth, Ohio. In Bainbridge I ran into The Trading Post Antiques where I stacked up on cookbooks and cookie cutters for the coming holiday season. Then I had lunch at a local greasy spoon called Docs Bainbridge Restaurant. The broasted chicken was delicious. Portsmouth was a city lined with antique shops. Unfortunately, only two shops were opened on Sunday. One was called 'Ghosts in the Attic'; a huge antique shop with floors of antiques, vintage clothing and jewelry items.  I definitely plan to return to do a 'Style Adventure' piece.  Before I headed back to Columbus, I stopped at The Portsmouth Brewing Company. At the Brewery I had some appetizers and a beer flight of the house made brew. I also got a history lesson.  The building started out as a brewery in the 1800s and tried to survive selling non-alcoholic beer during Prohibition. Then the building housed a few other kinds of operations before it returned to being a brewery in the late 90s. The family who brought the building back to it's roots has been running it ever since. It is a cool place to hang out. I am not a beer expert but really enjoyed the 'Red Bird Ale'.

My look was casual and great for car travel. The weather was also a little chilly so I layered my Grace Jones tee over a button up and added a shawl cardigan with fringe detail on top. My pants were soft and comfortable. They are a light weight corduroy. The look is almost completely available. Find the details to get the look below.

Happy Birthday To Me!!!

Thursday was my birthday. I spent most of the day with my mom. Then early in the evening, I went to a Grand Opening for Sidecar Global Catering with Christina. It is a new venture connected to one of my favorite restaurants in Columbus. The food was insanely good. There were three tables of finger foods and desserts. We filled our plates with mac&cheese, lettuce wraps, candied bacon and several variations of the deviled egg. The event space was simple yet beautiful. We had a great time there. We finished the evening at Sidebar, next door to the event. We had a cocktail and went home. After all it was a weekday so I couldn't be out too late.

My look was 60s Mod inspired. It was a little chilly outside so I layered a dress over a tie blouse. The over the knee boots were a perfect finish to my 60s look. I threw on my cape-coat and gloves for extra weather protection.

Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

I have been celebrating my birthday all of the month of October in spurts. So Saturday I had a full day of activities planned. I started my day with a Breakfast Tour through Columbus Food Adventures with Dr. Breakfast; Nick Dekker: blogger and author of blog and book titled 'Breakfast with Nick'. While on the tour we ran into another one of my favorite bloggers from 'Drink up Columbus', Cheryl Harrison. She writes 'Drunk Brunch' my favorite go to for brunch spots in the city. This is the third year I have done a CFA tour around my birthday. It has become kind of a tradition. It was only right to do a tour this year after earning a free tour for filling up my CFA passport. After the tour was over I met my sister for a movie at Studio Movie Grill in the Arena District where we saw 'Annabelle'. We ended the night with a brain workout through 'Room Escape Adventures', where we participated in 'Trapped in a Room with a Zombie'. We were locked in a room for an hour with ten strangers, where we had to find clues and solve puzzles to find a key to escape the zombie before it could reach us. Look for more on that story on Once Upon A Stylish Life or select Kristin's World in the menu tabs. For now, Check out Saturday's look!

This season, I am all about comfort. I am gravitating toward sweatshirts and sweatshirt like tops. This faux fur with quilted faux leather sleeve sweatshirt was given to me by my mom. It was too big for her. I paired it with a red button-up and a pair of Versace inspired pants that I found at 'Out of the Closet'.

My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Friday I had a a great day with my mom. We checked out the Transfigurations Exhibit at the Wexner Arts Center in Columbus, Ohio. The collection belongs to the Wexner Family; known for bringing us brands like Victoria's Secret. The art collection consists of greats like Pablo PicassoEdgar Degas and Susan Rothenberg;the kind of collection that most people could only dream of owning. This collection featured six famous artists that normally sit on the walls of the Wexner home. They have been collecting the pieces for 40 years.

My mom and I ended our day on the town with a late lunch at Lemongrass Fusion Bistro in the Short North of Columbus and some lite boutique shopping. Since we were doing a little walking, I wanted to be comfortable. My look was centered around being able to wear denim and flats. I'd also just washed my hair and didn't have time to set it, so it became a great day to wear a turban. The blouse is vintage. I thought it would be perfect for the season and it features a fall color trend, Sangria. Check out the look!

Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them

My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

I kicked off my Birthday Celebration on Sunday with my nephew. We had brunch downtown in Columbus and saw a matinee of The Lion King Broadway show. The show was something I have been wanting to see for a very long time, so my mom purchased a pair of tickets for my birthday. It was one of the best gifts I have ever received. The show was brilliant and inspiring. The costumes were amazing! I am still singing 'Hakuna Matata'. I want to see it again.

My look was 60s Mod inspired. I am loving this trend for fall. The 60s is also one of my favorite decades in fashion. My mom gave me this tunic/dress because it was too big for her. I belted it and played it up with my accessories. All my metals were antique gold in color. I wore the scarab necklace from the last look I posted:it is pretty versatile. I found the metallic, three tone belt some time ago at a flea market. The round sunglasses felt very 60s with a modern twist. The rounded arch on top of the glasses add a touch of playfulness. The hounds-tooth boots were so appropriate with the chunky heel that also scream 60s. Since the weather was under 60 degrees, I decided to wear my black cape coat. Cape coats were also prevalent during the 60s. My mom told me she had one during that time as a child. Check out my look!
