Chris's/Kris's Closet (Kristin) December 5, 2014

Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

It is getting cold in Columbus,so photo opportunities have become a little hard. Last Friday I took these photos inside before I went to a late lunch with my friend Dee. I have become obsessed with these tees by Accidental Genius Clothing. This is my second post wearing one. In fact in my last post I rocked their Grace Jones 'Strange`' tee; the name of the character she played in the movie 'Boomerang'. This tee is Jasmine guy as 'Whitley Gilbert' from 'A Different World'. I love that the word 'Bougie' is written brightly across the top.  I grew up on the show and was ecstatic about this tee. When I was in my twenties, I looked for tees like these and they just did not exist.

For the look I layered the tee over a button up and paired it with a hot pink zebra stripe Marc Jacobs skirt that I have owned for years now. I thought my Betsey Johnson veiled beanie worked perfect for the look. I completed the look with a pair of over-the-knee Guess boots, a pair of large sterling hoops and a chunky silver bracelet.

Christina's Top 5 Spring Trends of 2013!!!

Kristin completed her top 5 Spring trends, so it's only right that I do mine as well. I'm so excited that Spring has officially launched, and I've already incorporated some of these trends into my wardrobe. I am desiring to add a whole new element to my wardrobe soon! We shall see.  Anyway, check out my Top 5 Spring Trends!

5. Bold Stripes

This trend has caught on pretty quickly. Everywhere I go people are wearing stripes, it almost makes me want to stop wearing my  super cute black and white striped blazer, but it's so easy to wear for pattern mixing I can't give it up yet. Plus, I've inspired people to start wearing stripes.

The only thing about stripes is the optical illusion, if you don't want to deal with all the stripe drama. Always, remember Go long and lean with vertical stripes, skinny stripes help elongate your figure. Or toss out the stripe clothing and opt for striped accessories scarves, shoes, or jewelry.

4. Lace

I have actually been a fan of lace for a while now. Kristin bought me a super cute black lace hoodie a few birthdays ago, and I still wear it. I like to make my lace a little edgier than the norm. But this sheer fabric can be sexy, casual, whatever you want to make it. Look how designers added lace to their Spring collections.

3. Midriffs

I am a very petite girl, and have the flattest stomach ever, but for some reason I have never liked showing my belly. Well, this season I am definitely feeling the midriff trend and plan to indulge, but in a sexy lady like way. Check out some of my favorite midriff looks from this season.

2. Pattern

Last season I really got into pattern mixing. This spring I plan to do even more, even putting an ethnic twist on my patterns and really playing with color. Marc Jacobs did an excellent job with his use of pattern this Spring, his designs were my favorite when it came to pattern.

1. Pastels
I am a fan of color especially pinks, blues, and yellows. So I am in love with the pastel trend, I have an excuse to add to my already colorful wardrobe. Here are some designers who showed pastels on the runway this season!

What are your favorite Spring Trends?

Until Next Time, Ciao!

Thursday's Inspiration

Thursday's Inspiration was inspired by all of the stripes shown on Spring 2013 runways. Thick or skinny, horizontal or vertical this is a trend to watch. Designers like Marc Jacobs,Fendi and Chloe all hit the nail on the head with this trend. Stripes can be tricky to wear, always remember, vertical stripes elongate your body, while horizontal stripes widen your frame.

This Month's Obsession

This Month's Obsession!!!

Often I see a trend or an accessory that takes over my mind. I see it, I fall in love with it and then I obsess about it. Once the feeling hits me, I go into research mode then I must have it, so I buy it. Then I buy it again in three more colors or variations in styles. Yes, if I love it then I need to have options and options. Then soon after, I have moved on to a new love. Today my obsession is...

My grandma wearing a turban with a evening attire on a cruise.

The TURBAN!!!
The turban has been around for thousands of years, worn mostly by men but also women of different cultures to signify religious observance and individuality. A true turban is created by winding clothe around ones head.

The fashion turban also referred to as both the urban or suburban turban, was popular in the 1920's, 1940's and then again in the 1970's.  Women like Marlene Dietrich made the look popular through out her career in the 20's through 40's. For those who aren't familiar, she was an actress of that time and is mentioned as a style icon in every book I have read about women who have influenced fashion.  My grandma, a fashionista of her time, wore them in the 70's. Then in 2010 we saw the trend make it's return on screen on another one of my personal style icons, Sarah Jessica Parker. She wore turbans in a few scenes in the Sex and the City 2 movie. So when it started showing up on runways and in the streets this last few years, I was excited.

With the remake of movie The Great Gatsby as many designers inspiration, the trend was popular last summer and has carried into fall/winter with variations made for winter weather. Then it showed up in September on runways for Spring/Summer 2013.  It showed in the Marc by  Marc Jacobs show and Beccaria of Milan for women. It also showed in Jean Paul Gaultier's collection for men. Though I do not expect to see many men in my community rocking the turban, I expect that this will be very popular with the fashion forward ladies.

Where to get a turban!!!

I haven't found turbans easily in my city. We aren't really known for fashion. So I bought mine from a seller online at etsy.com. I also ran into one in a vintage shop in Lebanon, Ohio. Here are some other turbans I found online. Wear them now in knits and velvet. Then wear them in less heavy fabrics all spring and summer. I really love the headband look for spring.

Style Crush (Chris)

This week's style crush is a spotlight on a trend that is moving into the Spring. "Wedge Sneakers", I first noticed their reappearance while watching, I hate to admit, Love & Hip Hop Atlanta. One of the stars Mimi, was rocking them, and they looked cute.

But, I remember wearing wedge sneakers in middle and high school, now I'm telling my age. But I loved them then, and I would wear them again, if I could find the right ones. Just think how comfortable it would be to wear a shoe that is a mix between a wedge and a sneaker, that's the best of both worlds.

In all of the fashion magazines and fashion websites editor's have chosen their "Top 10 Wedge Sneakers." Of course, they are featuring all of the designer brands such as Giuseppe Zanotti and Marc Jacobs. While those are super, super cute, not everyone can afford $850 for a pair of shoes. But a girl can dream, right?
Here is my wishlist of sneaker wedges!

Enjoy!
