 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Saturday I spent the day in Put in Bay with my sister and her friend. We rented a golf cart, winery hopped, checked out Perry's Victory Memorial and more. I knew I would be walking a lot and I wanted to be comfortable so I opted for a cotton dress and flat oxfords. I took my photos all over the island. This is what I wore.

I love when I am able to show you pieces that are so easily accessible. This is my second dress in a row from Target. It is by Merona. I am a huge fan of cheap and polka dots. The mint colored belt came with it and normally I would swap it out but I kept it since it matched my oxfords. Find my dress here.
I found some cheap hoop earrings earlier the same day at a flea market that was at a park up the street from where we were staying. I wanted to keep my earrings simple since I was wearing such a bold necklace.
The necklace I have worn once in Kris's Closet. I found it at a thrift store for $8. The bag is an old DKNY bag.
My oxfords are by Cole Haan. They were a gift from my mom. They are the fresh mint patent 'Tompkins' oxford. I love an oxford for denim, slacks and dresses.
This concludes another Kris's Closet. Thank you so much for stopping by!

Friday was the start of my sister's birthday weekend. A few of us took a road trip to Port Clinton to spend the weekend in a rental property right on Lake Erie. We got lunch downtown Port Clinton before we checked in. Then I got to play tour guide and I showed lil sis and company some of my favorite Lake Erie destinations like Great Lakes Popcorn Co., Marblehead Lighthouse and Tofts Dairy. Then we checked out a place I have never been called Cheese Haven. We made dinner, enjoyed a bon fire and  got in the Jacuzzi. I took my photos in the front yard of the house we rented. This is what I wore.

Friday's look was very much inspired by the water and nature. My dress is by Mossimo at Target. I love it! The dress is printed in the front and solid in the back. The print reminded me of waves and the colors made me think of sunlight, plants, sky and water. I paired the dress with straw accessories and jewelry that felt just as natural with a tribal feel.

The straw sun hat and tote I bought together at a thrift store last summer. I paid around $6 for the set.  I carried the straw tote on another Lake Erie trip but this is the first time I have worn the hat.Find similar hats here and here. Find similar totes here and here.
The earrings are from a vendor I ran into at the Dandelion Festival May 2012.
The belt is a tribal belly dancing belt I bought from a vendor at the International Festival a few years ago. I added it to the dress because it had many of the same colors in it and I wanted to give the look a tribal/boho feel.Find tribal belly dancing belts here.
I adorned my wrists with copper cuffs and my favorite ring and bracelet set from the Mali store of Chicago. The shoes were $2.50
at a Church Yard Sale.

Style Crush

This week's Style Crush features a fashionista and fellow OSU alum. We reconnected many years ago at a pop up shop she held in Cincinnati, Ohio. Kristin and I both fell in love with her style and her love for fashion.  Her fashion story is so inspiring, I love how she has trekked her fashion career path right here in Ohio. Meet our newest crush!

Tamia Stinson. 33 years old. Cincinnati,OH. Fashion Stylist

My take on fashion:

I have a pretty liberal take on fashion--what I love about it is that it's whatever you want it to be! My personal style tends to be a bit more on the muted neutrals/asymmetrical draping/downtown glam side, but depending on my mood it can be girly, boho, preppy... I play dress-up every day, like I'm my own personal Barbie doll. Which sounds weird.

Where I have been:

Let's see...a lot of my favorite life experiences have been the result of doing Something I Really Want to Do. If I get excited about an idea or opportunity, usually something creative, there's a pretty good chance I'll do it--anything from starting a blog, to taking classes overseas, to organizing pop-up shops--once I get that bug in my head it's hard to get it out!
My current career has been a lesson in planned accidents--I started out in corporate marketing, discovered a love of design and social media which led to freelancing, moved into project management, and somehow wound up as an editorial stylist. Styling is what I've always wanted to do, even when I didn't think it was a realistic career goal. There's a lesson about pursuing your dreams in there somewhere...

I'm passionate about:

Style (of course), family, social media, ice cream, Prince, travel, languages, dance, magazines, typography, etc. The list goes on!

You can find me:

My job is approximately 80% shopping and photo shoots, so I'm usually out visiting shops or on set during the day. In my free time, I ride my bike, do yoga, hang out with friends, take bad amateur photos, read the Internets, lament not doing more charitable work, and start reading books I (apparently) never finish.

Lake Erie Here I Come!!!

Lake Erie Here I Come!!!

When August arrives I am both sad and excited because it means the end of summer but it kicks off the birthdays that I look forward to celebrating each year. I have been planning my sister's milestone birthday for over a month and I have yet to have any sort of vacation since last summer. We are going to Lake Erie this weekend. It has become one of my favorite places especially Put in Bay of South Bass Island. My sister and her friend have never been so I am excited for them. We are days away so I am getting packed, finalizing our destination plans and making out a grocery list for our stay at our lakeside rental. I am looking forward to sticking my feet in the lake, boat rides, winery hopping and spending time with one of my favorite people. I also look forward to showing you my Lake Erie looks next week. I plan to let the lake inspire me. Check out the collection of photos below that either inspired me or are experiences I have planned for us to take in.

Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Sunday I went to Branstool to pick peaches with Leo. We picked peaches and searched through a wide selection of interesting jams, butters and jellies. I put together my look specifically for our outing. I learned my lesson last summer wearing sandals. My feet were dirty, wet and exposed to insects when we visited last, so I opted for my hiking boots this time to walk through the orchard. I still managed to throw together a look that was bright, cute and that I wouldn't mind getting dirty in. I also got to wear my favorite MAC neon orange lipstick. The color always makes me feel good. I took these photos at the orchard. This is what I wore.

I paired a black lace tunic with a pair of cobalt shorts. The tunic I thrifted a while ago. It was around $2. Find similar shirts here and here. The shorts are Merona from Target. I paid $15 for them. I am excited that cobalt will be a big color for fall again this year. I love it!
The belt is a piece I found at the Cultural Arts Festival. It is a tribal belly dancing belt.I think I paid $20 for it a couple years ago. Find some similar belts here.
My necklace is a very old beaded fringe necklace from Express. Find similar necklaces: option 1, option 2 & option 3  The sunglasses are gold and silver D&G aviators.
The ring is a black and white marble tile ring. I picked it up from a vendor at the Macy's Festival a while ago. Find a similar ring here. The bracelets are the 'Creature Cuff' by Tasha (Nordstrom), giraffe from Kohls, 'Artemis Cuff' and the 'Kalahari Bangle' from Stella & Dot. My boots are Rocky Boots from the Rocky Boot Outlet. I got them off the clearance rack since they are not something I plan to wear a lot. I got them for under $20.
This concludes another Kris's Closet. Thank you so much for stopping by!
