What's up with ChristinaKristin?

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to style this super cute kindergartner. I was really excited, because although we have done professional styling it's always with adult models of course. I love kids so much, and wanted to try kid styling. This shoot was so much fun, and this cutie happens to be my niece. This was her first shoot ever, and she was a tad bit nervous, but she was a natural behind the camera. Not to mention the photographer, Ashley Max-Dixon of  Photocentric Photography, gave excellent direction, and has a lot of patience. Be sure to check out her site.

My goal for this shoot was for it be really fashionable, so I dressed her in some current trends. You will see she has on stripes, and combat boots, and I couldn't resist that chunky knit grey sweater, I fell in love with the hood.

Of course I had to do some pattern mixing, and throw in that golden yellow with those adorable flat boots. We shot outside of an abandoned building, there were some really good props out there. She was actually freezing, but she pulled it off like a pro.

And finally, the pink blazer was a must, I told her all she needed was a brief case and she would be ready for work. The neon was an added bonus.

So that's what we are up to! Check out more of our styling work on our facebook page or on modelmayhem. If you are in need of adorable pictures for your kids contact Ashley at www.photocentricphotography.com . ChristinaKristin specializes in editorial styling, as well as personal styling for both men and women , and now kids styling, send us an email to christinakristin1@yahoo.com for more information.

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Kristin) January 26, 2013

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Saturday was the last day of Restaurant Week Columbus. For those who aren't familiar, it is a week where participating restaurants offer a scaled down three course menu for a set affordable price. So my fella and I made a reservation at a place called Dempsey's. We had a great meal with excellent service. We ended our night at home watching an episode of Dexter. This is what I wore.
I bought this ombre cowl neck  knit dress new at the thrift store a couple weeks ago on a half off Wednesday. It also has dolman sleeves hidden under my jacket because they are short. The dress is by Ronni Nicole and was originally $70 according to the original tags. I paid $10 for it which is more than I am use to at a thrift store for a dress. I found a similar dress here. http://www.6pm.com/michael-stars-ombre-marl-cowl-sweater-dress-bittersweet?zfcTest=mat%3A1
The green corduroy jacket  is old. I bought it from Petite Sophisticate many years ago.
I broke the dress up a little with a skinny brown studded belt with green stitching. Studded accessories are big for the season. This belt I found at the Ohio Thrift Store this past summer. Here is a similar belt. http://www.yoox.com/us/46274704QA/item?dept=women&tp=11227&utm_campaign=affiliazione_us&utm_content=10&utm_medium=affiliazione&utm_source=linkshare_us#cod10=46274704QA&sizeId=
My earrings were purchased a couple years ago at my girl Samara's place. Someone local designed them. I wish I knew some info about the designer. Sorry! I love these. They are made of leather and the fringe is on trend for Spring 2013. Here are some similar earrings. http://www.etsy.com/listing/105432602/boho-gold-triangle-and-leather-fringe?ref=sr_gallery_24&ga_search_query=brown+leather+fringe+earrings&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_page=1&ga_search_type=all
My boots are officially closet post regulars. They are the South Bay boot in henna by Chinese Laundry. They are very easy to wear, the leather is soft and they are flat. I bought them at Zappos. Find them at: http://www.zappos.com/chinese-laundry-south-bay-black?ef_id=UQaOcgAAV756c0XO:20130128144258:s
My Louis is ten years old. It is a Papillon from the Vuitton store at Mall of the Millenia in Orlando. It was my first Louis that I bought with my taxes when I was 21.
My mink coat is a vintage C. Jorgensen from Pasadena. It was given to me by my step grandma.

This concludes another Kris's Closet. Thank you so much for stopping by!

Thursday's Inspiration

Twice a week Kristin and I both create collections on a site called etsy. On etsy these collections are called treasuries. The reason why I enjoy doing them so much is because I feel like a fashion editor creating a cohesive display of items for a magazine. I am usually inspired by the collections I create either in my own personal life, or through my designs. So I decided, why not blog a little more in depth about the inspiration behind the treasuries I create.

My goal is to not only inspire you the reader, but also take my inspiration to the next level. I hope you enjoy this series as I much as I enjoy creating it!

*Chris*

This week I was inspired by television. I was obsessed with Sex & The City, and I became a fan of Carrie Diaries after reading the series. So, of course I have been watching the show. I almost forgot how much I love the fun, carefree fashion of the 80's, but the show quickly reminded me of what I've been missing.

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Kristin) January 19, 2013

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

CAUTION! THIS POST IS NOT FOR THE COLOR SENSITIVE!
Color Overload Below! This post may cause blindness, sensitivity to the eyes or may alter your mood positively. =)
Saturday I spent most of the day doing household chores and gathering things for my ladies night meeting. I met some friends at Danes Dessert Cafe where we had sweets and talked about future events and randomness. I had a great time laughing with ladies I had not seen in a while. Laughter is the best medicine!
I took these photos in front of the house hours before I left. It was sunny out so I sat outside a while to get some vitamin D. This is what I wore.
I am not a huge fan of winter but I love winter clothes and accessories. Boots are my favorite kind of footwear.  I love to wear bright colors all winter to keep myself in a great mood. Color is known to very much effect a person's mood.
I started with my favorite pair of denim. They are Skyline Skinny jeans by Paige. I got them from Nordstrom.
The sweater, I bought in Dayton at the Goodwill in the Oregon District. It was $3. I loved the colors and the large hounds-tooth pattern. My guy hates this sweater and many of you will probably as well. It is a Rafaella sweater from the 80's. I found a similar sweater by Rafaella at http://www.etsy.com/listing/116854071/80s-neon-rainbow-sweater-1980-new-wave?ref=sr_gallery_12&ga_search_query=rafaella+sweaters&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_search_type=all
I found this jacket a month ago at the Ohio Thrift Store. I paid $2.50 for it on a half off Wednesday. It is a colorful hounds-tooth cropped blazer by Ann May.  It is my favorite blazer at the moment so expect to see it again in the near future. I did not locate anything similar.

My earrings were given to me by my sister's friend many years ago.
These are my favorite boots! They are over-the-knee color-block suede 80's boots with zippers. I found them online at etsy.com. Some similar boots from etsy can be found below.

1. http://www.etsy.com/listing/96698404/size-8-colorblock-multicolor-leather-80s?ref=sr_gallery_13&ga_search_query=color+block+boots&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_page=2&ga_search_type=all

The skull ring is a closet post regular. It came from Nordstrom. I came across a similar one on etsy at http://www.etsy.com/listing/104433397/black-skull-ring?ref=&sref=

Thursday's Inspiration

Thursday's Inspiration was inspired by all of the stripes shown on Spring 2013 runways. Thick or skinny, horizontal or vertical this is a trend to watch. Designers like Marc Jacobs,Fendi and Chloe all hit the nail on the head with this trend. Stripes can be tricky to wear, always remember, vertical stripes elongate your body, while horizontal stripes widen your frame.

This Month's Obsession

This Month's Obsession!!!

Often I see a trend or an accessory that takes over my mind. I see it, I fall in love with it and then I obsess about it. Once the feeling hits me, I go into research mode then I must have it, so I buy it. Then I buy it again in three more colors or variations in styles. Yes, if I love it then I need to have options and options. Then soon after, I have moved on to a new love. Today my obsession is...

My grandma wearing a turban with a evening attire on a cruise.

The TURBAN!!!
The turban has been around for thousands of years, worn mostly by men but also women of different cultures to signify religious observance and individuality. A true turban is created by winding clothe around ones head.

The fashion turban also referred to as both the urban or suburban turban, was popular in the 1920's, 1940's and then again in the 1970's.  Women like Marlene Dietrich made the look popular through out her career in the 20's through 40's. For those who aren't familiar, she was an actress of that time and is mentioned as a style icon in every book I have read about women who have influenced fashion.  My grandma, a fashionista of her time, wore them in the 70's. Then in 2010 we saw the trend make it's return on screen on another one of my personal style icons, Sarah Jessica Parker. She wore turbans in a few scenes in the Sex and the City 2 movie. So when it started showing up on runways and in the streets this last few years, I was excited.

With the remake of movie The Great Gatsby as many designers inspiration, the trend was popular last summer and has carried into fall/winter with variations made for winter weather. Then it showed up in September on runways for Spring/Summer 2013.  It showed in the Marc by  Marc Jacobs show and Beccaria of Milan for women. It also showed in Jean Paul Gaultier's collection for men. Though I do not expect to see many men in my community rocking the turban, I expect that this will be very popular with the fashion forward ladies.

Where to get a turban!!!

I haven't found turbans easily in my city. We aren't really known for fashion. So I bought mine from a seller online at etsy.com. I also ran into one in a vintage shop in Lebanon, Ohio. Here are some other turbans I found online. Wear them now in knits and velvet. Then wear them in less heavy fabrics all spring and summer. I really love the headband look for spring.
1.rust knitted turban asos.com ( Great to wear for winter weather!)
2.printed turbans ebay.com ( Only $6.50 with FREE shipping!)
3.cobalt turban headband etsy.com
4.fushia turban villagehatshop.com (many color options)
5.velvet leopard turban karmaloop.com
6.orange lace turban by Betsey Johnson at 6pm.com ( also comes in lime)

Me on my way out the door Saturday.

Thank you for stopping by!

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Saturday I went to Lebanon,Ohio with my guy. He had a client to see and I wanted to get out since it was so nice out. We had lunch at  place called Seegers Meat & Deli then we walked through a few stores in Historic Downtown Lebanon. I found a fun turban at Miller's Antique Mall. We came back to Columbus and spent time with my guy's mom then had dinner at Lunada Mexican Grill in Hillard. I realized after the day was almost gone that I hadn't taken photos, so we stopped at the Ohio State Boathouse and shot these quickly in the rain. This is what I wore.
Some of my look is made up of pieces you have seen often. My equestrian style blazer is by Gibson from Nordstrom. I have posted the link to it many times. It is now my go to jacket for finishing an outfit. It's currently on sale. Here is the link again http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/gibson-equestrian-blazer/3341186?origin=keywordsearch&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=Black&resultback=0 My favorite jeans are also from Nordstrom. They are Paige Skyline Skinny in a dark indigo wash.

I was watching a show on ABC called The Neighbors last Wednesday and Jami Gerz who plays Debbie, the main female character (mom/wife) was wearing this blouse. I watched while the tie on the shirt disappeared and reappeared as Debbie moved around the kitchen in one scene in the show. Clearly, that was something the editors missed. I was quite amused. I got my shirt from Nordstrom. It was a gift from my mom. It is by Bellatrix but I didn't locate it on Nordstrom's site or anywhere else. The tie is removable and can be worn at the waist as well.
The tie is a slight contrast from the rest of the shirt. It is floral and adds a few brighter colors.
My earrings are pearl drops I bought for a quarter at a flea market. May favorite accessory in this look is my black turban. I bought this turban from a vendor on etsy for $4. When I got it, she was having a sale but the accessory is still under $10 in her shop. Check her out at http://www.etsy.com/shop/ArtsyTreats?ref=search_shop_redirect
My rings and bag are all closet post vets. The Louis Vuittion Papillon  is ten years old. It was my first Louis. I bought it from The Mall of the Millenia in Orlando. The rings left to right, pearl heart knuckle ring is from Forever 21, the skull is from Nordstrom and the vintage pearl ring is from an antique shop in Attica, Ohio.
These are my favorite smoking slipper this season. They  are the Jeffrey Campbell 'Elegant' Studded Bow Flat. I got mine online at Nordstrom but they are no longer available there. I located them on the AOL shopping site at http://shopping.aol.com/jeffrey-campbell-elegant-studded-bow-flat/s357182983

This week's etsy treasury inspiration came from all of the pink shown on the Spring runways. As you may know this is my favorite color, so of course I was excited to see it as a Spring trend.  Pink appeared in many shades ranging from, but not limited to, bright pink, coral and pastel pink. You will see pops of pink and head to toe pink ensembles this upcoming season.

Style Crush (Chris)

This week's style crush is a spotlight on a trend that is moving into the Spring. "Wedge Sneakers", I first noticed their reappearance while watching, I hate to admit, Love & Hip Hop Atlanta. One of the stars Mimi, was rocking them, and they looked cute.

But, I remember wearing wedge sneakers in middle and high school, now I'm telling my age. But I loved them then, and I would wear them again, if I could find the right ones. Just think how comfortable it would be to wear a shoe that is a mix between a wedge and a sneaker, that's the best of both worlds.

In all of the fashion magazines and fashion websites editor's have chosen their "Top 10 Wedge Sneakers." Of course, they are featuring all of the designer brands such as Giuseppe Zanotti and Marc Jacobs. While those are super, super cute, not everyone can afford $850 for a pair of shoes. But a girl can dream, right?
Here is my wishlist of sneaker wedges!

Enjoy!

Row 1: Left to Right

1. Jimmy Choo $850

2. Coach, Nordstrom $177

3. Monkia Chiang  $925

Row 2: Left to Right

1. Giuseppe Zanotti, Nordstrom $895

2. Nine West $225

Row 3: Left to Right

1. Mia Shoes $69

3. N.Y.L.A. $59.95

Until next time,Ciao!

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Kristin) NYE December 31, 2012

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Happy New Year!

New Years Eve I went to the Hollywood Casino in Columbus, Ohio for their 80's party. I ate at the buffet and then the fella and I left to go to another 80's party at Skully's in the Short North. It was kind of an uneventful night but I feel blessed and happy to be here yet another year. I took these photos at the casino. This is the outfit I was wearing when I brought in the New Year.
I had a hard time at first finding something to wear because I gained quite a bit of weight in 2012. I did not go buy a new outfit so I had to piece together some things I already had. I went with a ladylike menswear look. I wore a button up that I bought a week ago from the Ohio Thrift Store for maybe a dollar. I threw on a pair of dark denim skinny jeans by Paige. They were purchased at Nordstrom.
The silver and black sequin jacket I got from Shoetique at 3760 E. Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio. I located similar jackets at: option 1:http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374306418048&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446522627&site_refer=AFF001&mid=13816&siteID=J84DHJLQkR4-m1ase04xX8MgvvRvWoUWKQ&LScreativeid=1&LSlinkid=15&LSoid=203720&LSsid=J84DHJLQkR4 and
 option 2:http://us.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=34072&storeId=13065&productId=6768273&langId=-1&categoryId=&parent_category_rn=&searchTerm=silver%20sequin%20jacket&resultCount=1
The vest I have had for over a year. I bought it during a black phase. It also is a thrift store buy.
This is why I was attracted to the vest. It laces up in the back!
Since my jacket and other accessories were kind of busy, I kept my earrings simple. I just wore a pair of diamonds. They are heirlooms from my grandma. My hair is adorned with a white rhinestone barrette, I got at a flea market this past summer for a quarter.
The bowtie is a DIY project. I made it New Years Eve. I call it a collar brooch. Christina and I sell them at Shoetique. Look for them also in our online shop. Here is one I just posted today http://www.etsy.com/listing/119768786/studded-cobalt-bow-tie-collar-brooch.
This bag has already been on closet posts a lot lately. It was an early Christmas present from my mom. It is the Michael Kors Hamilton  East/West  Satchel. I love that the lock is real and can be removed with the key that is also attached and removable. Find it online athttp://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=586665002&tid=plpl000000&kwid=1&ap=7&mkwid=U4j00a&adid=Cebqhpg+Nqf My rhinestone mustache ring I bought at Cedar Point this past August. There are pages or mustache rings on http://www.etsy.com
My open toe silver pumps are distressed leather, Steven by Steve Madden. They are old.
This concludes another Kris's Closet. Thank you so much for stopping by!
