Chris's/Kris's Closet (Kristin) July 29, 2012

Kris's Closet

Inspired by great bloggers like Folake of Style Pantry and Tamia of The Style Sample, we decided to open up our closets to the world as well. We are ChristinaKristin of Columbus,Ohio. We are two women close in age, with two different takes on style and completely different personalities. The best way to describe us if personalities were colors would be red and hot pink. I am the red personality because I am usually wild, passionate and bold with fashion and in life. My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Sunday the fella and I went to get corn from a farmers market in Hilliard. We stopped at Franks Fish & Seafood Market in Columbus to see what they had. Nice selection! We drove to Tanger Outlets where I popped into the Cosmetics Company Store to pick up some discontinued pink lip colors by MAC that I'm almost out of. We drove around Central Ohio where we got lost looking for a festival and restaurant that we never found. We ended up eating at Ben & Joy's, a small town restaurant in Mt.Sterling, Ohio then we came back to Columbus and walked around the river front a little. This is what I wore.
My yellow heart covered dress is from a brand called Bebop. It is a non-literal take on the polka dot. I got it from Buffalo Exchange in Chicago last month. Here are some similar dresses. Click on links to view.

My pearl earrings are clip/screw-ons that I found last week at Second Time Around in Attica. They were on an earring card with another pair of earrings that I was actually after last week. I threw these on as an afterthought when I felt like the first pair of pearl dangle earrings I put on originally were too much. My vintage rose necklace I wore to Kelley's Island and Put in Bay a week ago Saturday in my closet blog dated 7/21. I have been looking for similar necklaces with no success. Mine came from Funky & Functional in the Short North of Columbus.  My pearl tassel necklace is from a large antique shop I ran into going towards Dayton. I don't remember the name but I located some similar pearl necklaces. Click on links to view.

My glasses are Fendi  (FS118). They are quite a few years old. This particular pair use to be my grandma's. God bless her beautiful soul. They had her bifocal prescription in them and I removed the lenses and had them replaced with my prescription at SEE Easton. I love them because they belonged to a great woman and I feel great when I wear them. I did not find anything close to these to suggest but if I do I will update this or post the suggestions next time I wear them.
My belt is an old red leather belt from Newport News Catalog. I tied it in a knot in the middle to take away some of the width and tied it in the back. The lipstick red leather clutch I carried last Sunday in Sandusky. I gave suggestions for red leather clutches on closet blog dated 7/22. The pearl heart two finger ring is from Forever 21. The large vintage pearl ring is from Second Time Around in Attica last Sunday. I got it during last week's Style Adventure. Check out Style Adventures Vol. 3 blog. My shoes are python leather and suede color block 5 1/4" stilettos by ALDO. I ordered them from Nordstrom. You can find them @ http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/aldo-hamblet-pump/3264848?origin=keywordsearch&fashionColor=&resultback=709 They are a neutral python with a lipstick red heel and canary yellow platform bottom. These shoes are beautiful and I love wearing them, well until my feet start hurting. They are two hour shoes. If you are sitting, they are great. I have worn theses twice now and both times I carried flats with me.

Saturday I watched a lot of Olympics, messed around in my garden and cleaned the house. Then I had dinner with the fella at Sago Asian Bistro in Grove City. Afterward we went for a walk at Gantz Park in Grove City.  I ended my night at the Pickerington Violet Festival where I watched Night Ranger, the 80's hair band perform. These pictures are from Gantz Park. This is what I wore.
My tribal print, strapless dress is what I call a "maxi mini". I am too short for a real maxi dress so I don't tend to wear dresses that come past my calves.  I bought this dress last year from Forever 21. I needed to change out of my work clothes for a party and this dress was cute and quick. It also worked well under a blazer when it was cooler out. To view similar dresses click on links below.

This belt is a tribal belly dancing belt. I bought it from the International Festival that Columbus has every year at Vets Memorial. It is covered in wooden buttons, seed beads and cowrie shells. Click on links to view similar belts.

My straw envelope clutch I bought at Buffalo Exchange in Chicago for like $12. I love the straw clutches, this is one of two that I own. They go with so much. To view some similar clutches click on links.

My flat, black, leather, gladiator style, bootie sandals I have worn in a previous blog. I made some suggestions for them in my very first closet blog earlier this month. Review blog dated 7/7.
These are my copper cuff bracelets that I wear pretty often. I have worn them in two blogs already this month. The "arm party" is hot right now. If you aren't familiar with the term, it means wearing a bunch of different bracelets all at once. So stack and mix to get this look and it can be done with all kinds of bracelets. But I love doing it with my copper cuff collection. If you have skinny wrists like I do, cuffs are he best style of bracelet. The best places to find copper cuffs are thrift stores and antique shops. For vintage and new copper cuffs online I would browse http://www.etsy.com/ and http://www.overstock.com/. My turquoise and gold bracelet and ring set are from a Chicago store called Mali on Michigan Ave. I put up the site for them the first time I wore these in my closet blog dated 7/14.
The gold and silver sunglasses are my go to sunglasses most of the time. They are my D&G Aviators (6065). I have worn these quite a few times in my closet blogs this month. The best place to find quality aviators is the well known ray-ban @ http://www.ray-ban.com/usa. My earrings are handmade by a vendor I ran into at the Dandelion Festival in Dover, Ohio this past May. He does that festival and the Island Fest in Kelleys Island every year. I just saw him on the island last weekend. The earrings are made out of wood beads, gold wire and black seed beads. I could not locate anything similar to them but there are lots of fun wood and wire dangle earrings on http://www.etsy.com/.

I am the red personality because I am usually wild, passionate and bold with fashion and in life. My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Sunday after a long night of partying in Put in Bay with the fella, I woke up and took a dip in the pool at the hotel before check out. We had breakfast at Dianna's Deli in Sandusky. Then we went looking for fresh walleye to take home for dinner. After we located dinner and put it on ice, we visited a park next to Lake Erie, stopped at a few yard sales, had ice cream at Toft's and finally ended up downtown Sandusky again where we stopped at the Merry Go Round Museum. We took these pictures at the Museum and some by the lake. I wish I would have eaten the ice cream afterward. My belly looked like I was with child, which I am not. Oh well, the show must go on. This is what I wore.
I wore a black, sleeveless, jersey dress by INC. with a red, white, blue and yellow pattern all over it. The dress is a couple seasons old.  My hat is a straw fedora with striped ribbon trim from the men's department of Walmart last summer. I prefer a man's hat because they seem to run bigger. I have a big head and a lot of hair. My shoes are royal blue wedges with cut outs by Zigi Soho. They are repeats from the previous Kris's Closet blog. Similar shoes were suggested, view 7/21 Kris's Closet. I am repeating these black and silver cat-eye glasses as well from the first Kris's Closet, view 7/7 blog. I made suggestions and located the actual pair in that blog entry. The earrings I bought last month for $4 at Second Time Around in Attica, Ohio. That store was featured in our this week's Style Adventure blog Vol. 3. Click on links to view similar items.

Kris's Closet

Inspired by great bloggers like Folake of Style Pantry and Tamia of The Style Sample, we decided to open up our closets to the world as well. We are ChristinaKristin of Columbus,Ohio. Saturday I got up at 7am, packed a bag and headed to Kelleys Island with the fella. The Kelleys Island Festival was going on. I was not sure what that was but I love festivals so I wanted to go.  We had lunch in Sandusky at Water Street Bar & Grille while we waited for the boat to the islands. When we got to Kelley's Island, we had a drink at Casino then we rented a golf cart and explored the island. We stopped at Kelleys Island Wine Co. and had the wine sampler and some cheese, stopped to admire the Glacial Grooves State Monument and did a little shopping at Vi's Island Treasures. Then we hopped on a boat to Put in Bay and had dinner at a new restaurant called The Keys where I had amazing conch fritters. We took the pictures just outside of the restaurant entrance before we went in. This is what I wore.
I wore a white jumpsuit with multi-colored childlike tulips and graffiti all over it that I got from a seller on etsy for $16 plus shipping. I paired the jumpsuit with a yellow linen blazer that I bought at a thrift store on the west side of Columbus for $1.00. Click on links to view similar jumpsuits and blazers.

Here is the jumper without the jacket.
My blue, lace-up, cut out wedges are by Zigi Soho from dsw.com. They are no longer available but I found some similar styles. Click on links to view.

This is a clutch that I have carried before that I got from a thrift store in Circleville for $1.00. I suggested similar clutches for this on Kris's Closet blog 7/8/12. The rings are five year old Forever 21 accessories from when I use to be an assistant visual merchandiser there. They are 70's inspired lucite plastic rings. I located some fun lucite rings. Click on links to view.

My necklace is a vintage piece I got from one of my favorite places in Columbus in the Short North called Funky & Functional. It is a hologram rose. My earrings are a repeat pair, I wore them in my 7/8/12 blog and offered suggestions. I could not locate anything close to my necklace so I don't have any suggestions for that.
This concludes another Kris's Closet. Thank you for stopping by!

Style Adventures Vol. 3 ( Kelley's Island & Attica, Ohio)

STYLE ADVENTURES

(Kelley's Island & Attica, Ohio 7/21 & 7/22)

This is a blog about how to add to your wardrobe using antique shops, thrift stores, yard sales and other venues. We travel Ohio and beyond discovering unique and stylish items we want to share and the places we found them.

Vi's Island Treasures
211 E. Lakeshore
Kelley's Island, Ohio
First I want to apologize ahead of time for some of these pictures not being as clear as they are normally. I don't have a professional photographer so sometimes we get it right and sometimes it's just okay.

I spent the weekend hopping the islands of Lake Erie. I'd planned to go to the Kelley's Island Fest with the fella for months. We got there and I was not super impressed with the festival and the island was not what I expected either. It was nothing like Put in Bay. It was super laid back but still kind of fun because it was different. We rented a golf cart and drove around the island and ended up running into the newest gift shop on the island, a place called Vi's Island Treasures next to a large home called Kelley's Mansion.
Light house glass table

The store is stocked with nautical related furniture, lamps and souvenirs. There are lots of lighthouses, seagulls and seashells. There is also an abundance of my favorite thing, jewelry. I was so excited noticing she had a lot of swarovski crystal jewelry. There were swarovski covered sunglasses and watches as well.

The necklaces were very colorful and summery. She had shell and stone pieces. There were also quite a few fun pairs of earrings using images like flip flops and the state bird, the cardinal. The ones that caught my eye were red bicycles. I thought these were brilliant.
The bicycle earrings in red and blue

I am a sucker for novelty! I know this isn't clothing or accessories. I fell in love with these, not because they were something I had never seen but because they had a pair of tweezers for everyone. I was given a pair similar as a gift from my mom and thought they were great but the girl didn't look like me. It's amazing how things like that make a difference but it makes you feel good to be represented. I immediately snatched up the brown girl tweezers with curly black hair. Mine!

I did not leave with a lot but I was impressed with the selection. I did take home my black girl Uptown Girlz tweezers. They will get used once a week. Shop total $3.95 plus tax

Second Time Around
8534 S. State Rt. 4
Attica, Ohio 44807

Sunday on the way home from the shores and islands of Lake Erie, we stopped at a place I discovered last month on the way to Sandusky during another ride with the fella. I was super excited to be stopping through again. Second Time Around use to be a public school in Attica in the early nine-teen hundreds. The couple who run the place and also live on site, kept some of the school interior remnants. When you walk in behind the desk where the transactions take place you will find an enclose bulletin board with eerie black and white class pictures, old news articles and hand written notices. In the room to the left you will find the chalkboards as they hung exactly 100 years ago. This is the anniversary year. Since the couple live in the shop, you are welcome to ring the doorbell at any time if you want to browse or shop. If they are there, they will open up for you.

When I got to the shop, this is the first place I went. Last time I was there I found two great pairs of earrings. I  hoped the clutch I saw last time was still there. Unfortunately for me it wasn't, but there were new pieces and I was leaving with something. They have a large case with pull out shelves full of all kinds of vintage jewelry and accessories. Some things are just okay but somethings are exceptional. I try to find the exceptional.

After looking at everything I start trying on things and start to narrow down my options. Clip-ons are usually funky and more exciting than the pierced earrings but may not be easy to convert so I sometimes walk away from those.

The first thing that caught my eye was an earring and bracelet set made of faux pearls and faux turquoise. I tried on the bracelet and it fit. It just needed a good cleaning. Mine!

Then I found this ring. It was clearly not in the best shape. It was tarnished mostly but it was still very charming and felt Old Hollywood. Mine!

I walked away from the jewelry to see what else there was to see. There is stuff all over but one of my other favorite areas in the store is the tea set wall. I use to collect these when I was little. My grandma gave me a few collectibles and I actually drank real tea out of them. They have a lot of beautiful sets in the shop.

I stopped to look in my second favorite room, which is full of toys, all kinds of posters and signs. It is the most interesting room in the place. I don't ever find anything in there that I want but I like looking in it.

I finally gathered up my selections and it was time to head home with my goodies. I had a long eventful weekend so I was excited about my bed.

Left to right: wood earrings and pearl screw on $2.00, pearl ring $1.50 and bracelet/ earring set $10
Total $13.50

Kris's Closet

Inspired by great bloggers like Folake of Style Pantry and Tamia of The Style Sample, we decided to open up our closets to the world as well. We are ChristinaKristin of Columbus,Ohio. We are two women close in age, with two different takes on style and completely different personalities. The best way to describe us if personalities were colors would be red and hot pink. I am the red personality because I am usually wild, passionate and bold with fashion and in life. My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Sunday I went to Utica to pick peaches with the fella but a storm came and dashed our dreams. Instead we went into the Legend Hills Orchard's market and got some that were already picked and ready to go along with some other goodies. Afterward we stopped at a few Goodwill thrift stores in Utica and Johnstown as well as an antique shop where some of these pictures were taken. We had a late lunch at 62 BBQ and ended our day at a cookout at my friend's home. This is what I wore.
The strapless denim jumper is from American Apparel. You can find the jumpsuit @ http://store.americanapparel.net/rsacm301.html It comes in two color options. The 80's vintage neon belt I found on etsy. I located some similar belts on etsy @ http://www.etsy.com/listing/96078284/vintage-braided-rope-belt-frog-buckle?ref=sr_gallery_23&ga_search_query=neon+belt&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_page=4&ga_search_type=all  and

The glasses are D&G, the same ones I wore in my closet blog from the day before on 7/14. The neon knit and beaded earrings are from ChristinaKristin Cotton Candy Collection. You can find them @ http://www.etsy.com/listing/103173180/rainbow-neon-beaded-hoops-with-knitted The neon lime green scarf is a long $5 piece from Shoetique, 3760 East Broad St. Columbus, Ohio. I found  similar scarves @ http://www.solidcolorneckties.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=NI00SI-0011&utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&gdftrk=gdfV25102_a_7c1455_a_7c6599_a_7c4395&gclid=CIak5qznnrECFYao4Aodyw3ofA and

These shoes are being revisited. I wore them last Sunday as shown in my closet blog about last Sunday's outft. They are Naturalizers and super comfortable. I gave similar shoe options in 7/8 blog. My new furry friend from Timber Tunes, the antique shop in Johnstown also makes an appearance to the right.
My bag is Louis Vuitton. It is the original Monogram Multicolore Canvas Alma before they updated it by removing the front pocket and before it was marked up $1000 more. It  was my graduation gift from my father when I graduated in 2005 from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. He passed away before I graduated and this was how I treated myself for a job well done with a portion of the money left to me. You can find the updated version of this bag @ http://www.louisvuitton.com/front/#/eng_US/Collections/Women/Handbags. It is one of my favorite bags and has sentimental value, I have been carrying it a lot recently so the leather on it is finally stained with oils from my hands. The neon pink lego resin ring I'm wearing was ordered from a jewelry designer on etsy. It comes in several color options. You can find it @ http://www.etsy.com/shop/BadAttitudeJewelryCo or search lego rings on http://www.etsy.com/ The neon knit bangle is also on etsy @ http://www.etsy.com/listing/96825894/knit-covered-wooden-bangle-cotton-candy It comes in a few color combinations. It is another ChristinaKristin Cotton Candy Collection piece.

That concludes another Kris's Closet. Thank you for stopping by.

Be blessed! Be free! Be fashionable!
Kris,
