Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them and where I wore them. My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

A lot of you have seen this look on my instagram or facebook page but I decided to post it anyway to credit the garments. On my birthday last Friday, I wore this rock inspired look instead of playing Halloween dress up. I honestly get tired of being other people and things on my birthday sometimes, so I go through periods that I go on a Halloween dress up strike.  I went on a food tour with Christina and met a friend and her husband on the Alt Eats Tour with Columbus Food Adventures. I wanted to be cute but comfortable so I opted for a Scorpions rock band tee that I got in September at the Scorpions concert. I paired the tee with a pair of pants that I ironically wore the last time I did a Columbus Food Adventure tour. I added a fall sweater with tassels to keep me warm through the fall evening. This is what I wore.

Top: Scorpions concert tee
Pants: Xhilaration (old thrift find from 'Out of the Closet')
Sweater: Vince Camuto (old)
Boots: Timberlands (old)
Earrings:14th & union (last year's Birthday present from Christina)
Necklace: Passiana (old)

Until next time!
Be blessed! Be free! Be fashionable!

         FRINGE  BENEFITS

In Mesopotamia 300 to 300BC fringe adorned the two most basic garments worn: the skirt and the shawl. Fringe has been used for decoration at other points in human history, notably as a decoration on the leather clothes of Cowboys in the American West and as a brief fashion trend in the 1970's.

And lets not forget the roaring 20's, fringe was flying everywhere and they seemed to be having lots of fun.

I remember watching the western shows that were television staples when I was a little girl in the 60's.  The male characters wore fringe jackets in addition to the native Americans who sported clothing with fringe and moccasins, remember those? For those of you too young to remember they were very popular.

Per an article written by the Gale Group, Inc. Fashion, Costume and Culture, Headwear, Body Decorations, and Footwear through the ages/2004, Native Americans of the Plains and elsewhere had long created garments with fringe, which served as a type of gutter that repelled rainwater from the wearer. Here's a thought, our eyelashes serve a similar purpose.

Easy Rider, a film in 1969 featured the stars wearing casual fringed suede jackets. The fringed jackets were really popular . Many Indian looks, including occasion boots and beaded belts became fashionable. Designer Giorgio di Sant'Angelo (1933-1989) copied Native American ceremonial dress for his fall 1970 collection. Di Sant'Angelo won the city American Fashion Award but backlash deemed the collection insensitive to native Americans.

Fast forward to spring 2015 where fringe made a strong showing.

You can add minimal touches of fringe to your wardrobe by  adding accessories.

Coat:    Rebecca Taylor "Artisan" Tweed fringe coat
Boots:  Giuseppe Zanotti fringed suede boots
Purse:  Silva Isla Fringe Gold
Gloves: Diane Von Furstenberg Fringe Leather Gloves

I now have fringe jewelry and shoes in addition to a skirt and jacket. I would love to buy a purse.  I will never wear them together, that would be too much of a good thing: I would consider that overkill.  Polyvore has contributors who have tastefully coordinated outfits which include fringed items.

Necklace: Baublebar

The 2015 fringe is not much different than the 1970's offerings except for the fact that the designers have utilized more materials than the proverbial leather and seude.

Try it again, or for the first time.  You might find it interesting. Make sure your clear of anything that you might catch the fringe on, oh and be careful sitting, but enjoy!

One day at a time! Karen

Kris's Closet

In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them and where I wore them. My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Saturday my Queen City sister trip continued with a late morning rise to check out the Newport Aquarium. My sister and I looked at all the exhibits and finished the experience with the Penguin Encounter. We got to spend 20 minutes in a small room with a group of the cutest penguins. They were just like children, fighting for the attention of their handler/mommy and pulling people's shoe strings. Then we walked around the Newport on the Levee and took advantage of the food they were offering as part of the Taste of the Levee. This is an annual event where all of the restaurants at Newport on the Levee offer sample sizes of the items from their menus at a low cost of $3 and under and patrons are encouraged to fill out a form to vote for their favorite taste. The next stop was about more food. We tasted our way through the Findlay Market with Cincinnati Food Tours. Foodie friends, look for more information about the food tour on my adventure blog. You can easily access that blog through the Kris's World tab on the ChristinaKristin blog menu. We got back to the house where we were staying in time for me to catch the end of the Ohio State game. O.H! Go Buckeyes! We capped off the night with a little bar hopping in the Over the Rhine area. We checked out The Famous Neons Unplugged and a couple other places. This was my very comfortable Saturday look!

 Button Down Shirts

Skirt:White House Black Market
Shirt:Macy's
Jewelry: Baublebar
Shoes:White House Black Market
Glasses:SEE Eyewear

The button down shirt is a must have staple for any wardrobe. Button down shirts can look utilitarian but they can also be very feminine. Many women feel that button down shirts are boring and conservative. I read an article complete with a slideshow written July 16, 2014 by Kristen Bousquet. Http:///stylecaster.com/how-to-wear-button-down-shirts/, that was very interesting.

I have several button down shirts in my closet in white and black and blue.  I have purchased button downs from many stores, but my favorite shirts are  sold at Banana Republic. Banana Republic shirts are no-iron and are made of a beautiful, comfortable material.

The shelf life of a white button down for me is usually about three months.  I try to wash them by hand and they can also be dry cleaned.

So when in doubt as to what to wear with "anything"  try a button down shirt, be it a casual or dressy piece. One day at a time! Karen.

Chris's/Kris's Closet (A ChristinaKristin Day Out) September 5, 2015

Chris's Look

Labor day weekend, Kristin and I attended a free Reggae festival at the Columbus Commons, the festival was to raise awareness for Amputee Children. The festival was a lot of fun, we engaged with old friends, ate good food (although there was no Jamaican food at the reggae festival, go figure), listened to great music, and visited vendor booths. The highlight of my day was running into a customer wearing ChristinaKristin jewelry, her Global Gal pieces were perfect for this event. This is what I wore.

Kris's Look

That Saturday was a really warm day, so I opted for as little clothes as possible. The look was more about staying cool than style but I dressed it up with accessories. The festival was a really nice event, though the weather was hard to enjoy. I am always happy to hang out with Christina.
