Style Adventures Vol. 5 (Bucyrus, Ohio)

STYLE ADVENTURES

(Bucyrus, Ohio 8/18 /12)

This is a blog about how to add to your wardrobe using antique shops, thrift stores, yard sales and other venues. We travel Ohio and beyond discovering unique and stylish items we want to share and the places we found them.

Saturday I went to Bucyrus, Ohio for the Bratwurst Festival. I was not at all expecting to do any shopping because it was so late in the evening and in the country everything shuts down early. My fella and I were looking for an ATM when we ran across an antique store that was getting ready to close for the day. I told him to meet me back at the store and we briefly went our separate ways. I wasn't going to miss an opportunity to shop.

The store houses lots of antique furnishings, toys and collectibles like dolls and lincoln logs, vintage china, clothing, hats and my favorite, jewelry. I have been to many antique shops but none like this. What sets this place apart from the rest is the large quantity of items they offer for a just dollar.
If you love vintage jewelry and don't mind doing some looking, this is your place. The owner, Michael Rossman says they put out new jewelry everyday. Knowing that most of the pieces are just a dollar definitely makes the task worth it for me.
I saw a basket with a note card in it that read $1.00 and I immediately went to town. There were several necklaces in the basket. I had to do some work to really look through it. A lot of the items were tangled around each other but I got the pieces I was interested in apart. I started making a pile when the owner came over and pointed out several other baskets and cases full of dollar items. I tried not to get overwhelmed.
The cases were large and completely full. While some of the items were just okay, there were plenty of items that were just my speed. I started to feel like I was getting ridiculous so I started asking myself if I could live without the pieces. If my answer was yes, then I put it back.
I fell in love with these button earrings. Mine! No one makes anything like this anymore!

I finalized my selection and ended up with quite a bit. I purchased my items then ran into a few  pairs of earrings I was interested in. I made a second purchase before I could get out the door and was still looking even after that. I had to force myself to leave the store.
left to right: multi-colored necklace, parrot pendant, wood beaded necklace, copper and silver swirl button earrings, blue button earrings with multi-colored beads, star necklace, rust pendant, and shell pendant. Total: $8
