I realize as I get older, I am an equal opportunity closet raider. I have raided the closets of my mom, dad, grandma and even grandpa. Sunday I wore a suede fedora that belonged to my grandfather. The hat was a perfect accessory for the weather. It was a cool fall day so with the close of my birthday week and month, I decided I wanted to get brunch and take a walk somewhere. After a slightly disappointing brunch at Cap City, I headed to High Banks Park where I took my photos. Although I love the fall colors, I hate that it means cold weather is just around the corner. This is what I wore.

I try to avoid a jacket whenever possible by layering up. The temperature was in the 60's so I wore a sweater over a 70's vintage paisley button-up. I have always loved blues and browns together. I am also loving mixing the feminine and masculine together lately so this look was inspired by both my grandpa and mom.

Kris's Closet

Inspired by great bloggers like Folake of Style Pantry and Tamia of The Style Sample,two months ago we decided to open up our closets to the world as well. We are ChristinaKristin of Columbus,Ohio. Saturday I spent the day in Amish Country. The fella and I drove down to get supplies for his business. When the business was done, we browsed a few Amish fabric and furniture stores, bought lots of cheese at Guggisberg and walked across the street to Chalet in the Valley to have a late lunch. I took my first two pictures in the fabric store parking lot. I am obsessed with horse and buggys. The rest of the pictures were taken at Guggisberg, the cheese store. This is what I wore.

I wore a beige cotton dress by Apostrophe. It is so comfortable. I originally bought it from a thrift store in Illinois to turn into a high-low dress but I never got around to it.

My 80's belt I bought at a thrift store a while ago. I am no longer sure which one. I love belts and the 80's produced some of the best ones. My copper cuff arm party comes from a mixture of places. The bottom one with the turquoise is the newest one. It's from the gift shop at Tecumseh. The third one is a penny cuff made with pennies from a time when pennies were made completely of copper. That bracelet I bought from a jewelry vendor at the Ohio State Fair. It is new to the closet blog. Saturday I went to the Urban Scrawl in the Franklinton Arts District. I was excited about everything I saw. Art in progression was everywhere! As an artist, I was inspired. I looked around outside and in and took pictures of work I loved. After the art festival, I went home and had wine on the patio with my fella. I took my photos at the Urban Scrawl. This is what I wore.

I wore a lace and muslin cape that I belted over a white beater. The cape is an old piece from Forever 21. My diamond print circle skirt is from The Ohio Thrift Store. 

My sunglasses are now closet blog repeats. They are Cole Haan cat-eyes (C6048)

My shoes are Type Z sandals in distressed gold leather, also repeats. Sold out! I can't find similar shoes anywhere.

Remedy This! Cleaning Copper with Ketchup

Remedy This!!! 

In the struggling economy, especially as a woman who doesn't have a 9 to 5, I am always trying to find ways to save money and also look great. I spend a lot of time in front of my laptop and tv discovering new, natural or frugal ways to take care of my beauty and fashion needs. With most people on the same page, many tv programs and articles these days focus on just that. I would like to try these things out for myself and share with you my results.

Cleaning Copper with Ketchup

Before

All summer I have been wearing my copper cuff collection and never stopping to clean it. Part of it was I actually had to go buy copper cleaner and that would require effort. The other thing was copper doesn't look so bad even if it's tarnished. Needless to say, I was in no rush. I was watching tv, not sure what show with all of the Dr.Oz , The Talk, The Doctors, etcetera. Everyone is offering health and beauty tips these days. I discovered that you could use ketchup to clean copper on one of the shows and stored the info in my memopad on my phone. Occasionally I scroll through to see what I wanted to remember to look at or do. I ran across this tip and decided to give it a go less than a week ago.

 I covered the cuffs in ketchup and let it sit for about ten minutes then I rinsed it off with water. I wasn't satisfied so I repeated the process and let it sit another ten minutes and rinsed it off again. 

After

 I am happy with the results for the most part. I am thinking I left the ketchup on just a little to long. Not only did the ketchup remove the tarnish, it also removed some of the shine. The cuff bracelets were clean but a little dull. You should only leave it on about 5 to 10 minutes according to things I read after the fact . The ketchup works because of the vinegar in it. Vinegar is acid and the acid is what takes off the tarnish. I also later read that a lemon and salt combo would work or just vinegar alone. Maybe I will test one of the other options when my cuffs are in bad shape again. I am just happy I did not waste money on copper cleaner. I will use my copper cleaner money on a new fall accessory.

Saturday I watched a lot of Olympics, messed around in my garden and cleaned the house. Then I had dinner with the fella at Sago Asian Bistro in Grove City. Afterward we went for a walk at Gantz Park in Grove City.  I ended my night at the Pickerington Violet Festival where I watched Night Ranger, the 80's hair band perform. These pictures are from Gantz Park. This is what I wore.

My tribal print, strapless dress is what I call a "maxi mini". I am too short for a real maxi dress so I don't tend to wear dresses that come past my calves.  I bought this dress last year from Forever 21. I needed to change out of my work clothes for a party and this dress was cute and quick. It also worked well under a blazer when it was cooler out. To view similar dresses click on links below.

My flat, black, leather, gladiator style, bootie sandals I have worn in a previous blog. I made some suggestions for them in my very first closet blog earlier this month. Review blog dated 7/7.

These are my copper cuff bracelets that I wear pretty often. I have worn them in two blogs already this month. The "arm party" is hot right now. If you aren't familiar with the term, it means wearing a bunch of different bracelets all at once. So stack and mix to get this look and it can be done with all kinds of bracelets. But I love doing it with my copper cuff collection. If you have skinny wrists like I do, cuffs are he best style of bracelet. The best places to find copper cuffs are thrift stores and antique shops. My turquoise and gold bracelet and ring set are from a Chicago store called Mali on Michigan Ave. I put up the site for them the first time I wore these in my closet blog dated 7/14.

The gold and silver sunglasses are my go to sunglasses most of the time. They are my D&G Aviators (6065). I have worn these quite a few times in my closet blogs this month. The best place to find quality aviators is the well known ray-ban @ http://www.ray-ban.com/usa. My earrings are handmade by a vendor I ran into at the Dandelion Festival in Dover, Ohio this past May. He does that festival and the Island Fest in Kelleys Island every year. I just saw him on the island last weekend. The earrings are made out of wood beads, gold wire and black seed beads. Friday I spent some time with a friend Naima from high school who had just graduated from the school of Aveda. She came over and we played catch up while she did my nails and toes for me because they really needed some help. Thank god for her! Then I got dressed to go to dinner with my fella at Mary Kelly's in Dublin. We took these photos out front before we ate. I was not notified by my photographer aka the fella, that my bra strap was showing the entire time. =(
