Last weekend, I celebrated Halloween by going to a costume party  at The Boat House at Confluence Park, in Columbus, Ohio. This venue has such an amazing view, it sits near the Olentangy and Scioto Rivers overlooking the downtown Columbus skyline. Needless to say this was a grown-up affair, and the guests were so creative with their costumes. They actually put the fun in Halloween for me. I snapped a pic with a couple of my favorite costumes.

Guess who I decided to dress up as? Janelle Monae! With my natural hair, brown skin and petite frame, I knew I could pull it off. I was in character so well that people did a double take, even asking if I was in costume. Janelle's uniform is so easy, I think anyone could pull it off. Take a look at what I put together.

This is what I came up with. I actually recreated her look a few years ago, but my hair was not long enough for the pompadour. I was pretty excited that I had no problems with my hair this time.

Saturday I spent the day in Amish Country driving to my favorite places from city to city. Since my guy and I took my sister on her first trip that way, I got to go in a lot more stores than I would normally. In Berlin we ran into this store called Moxie. It was a breath of fresh air in Amish Country where wood furniture, quilts and burlap rule. This store stood out with clothing, accessories and home furnishings that you could find at a trendy boutique in a big city. We had to make our way inside.

The first thing that I saw were these dandelion eyelet oxfords. They were bright, fun and looked like basket weave. Believe me, if they came in my size, they would be in my possession right now. Darn, my size five feet!

I continued my stroll toward the shoe wall even though I knew they didn't carry my size. They had quite a bit of  ethnic/funky styles. It didn't hurt to look. Well, maybe a little.

My favorite pair on the wall were a pair of colorful chunky heeled slide-ons. We all know I love color.

Then we came a cross the Bargain Vault. In a little room there were many items 20% off the already marked down prices. I looked through the dresses, purses, sunglasses and jackets but did not find anything that I could not live without.

As always my favorite part of the store was the accessory section. My sister and I tried on sunglasses and searched through many pairs of earrings, stands covered in necklaces and trays of rings. I fell in love with several pairs of wood earrings by Green Tree Jewelry. The best part is they were made in the USA. I also bought a pair of jeweled earrings for my friend's birthday.

I took home three pairs of earrings. A pair is missing from the photo because they are part of a friend's birthday gift. My two pair totaled $20 plus tax

We have come to our last New York post. We hope you have enjoyed and been inspired by our trip. It was a great experience and great inspiration. We can't wait for our next opportunity.

 Saturday the 7th, we did the most walking the whole New York trip. We had brunch at Sylvia's, did some shopping and took a stroll in Central Park. It was our last night in New York so we went out that night to the Shrine in Harlem. This is what we wore during the daylight hours.

I was super excited about going to Sylvia's and finally checking out Central Park. I have been to New York many times and hadn't checked either place off my list until this recent trip. I was impressed with Sylvia's chicken, red velvet waffles and my peach tree mimosa. Yum! I got so much walking in that day, I know I completely burned the calories from that morning and the night before. I took my photos at Central Park. Check out what I wore!

My look was all about old Hip Hop done in a modern way. I have had this Run DMC tee for many years and never wore it until this trip. My sister tried to steal it because it was in a drawer with the tag still on it and I had to get it back. My vest is a piece you have seen before on my closet posts and it will not be the last time. The skirt is also a piece I have wore before here during the summer with another one of my favorite tees. I completed my modern Hip Hop look with a pair of gold door knockers, a knuckle ring/bracelet, a gold tooth necklace that I think is hilarious and a pair of wedge Adidas.

Chris's Closet

I am Christina, the hot pink of ChristinaKristin, welcome to my closet.

Kristin and I arrived in New York City early Wednesday (September 4) morning, after a not so great 8 hour bus ride. We slept a little on the long bus ride, I was still a little tired, but was so excited to be in this amazing city that I wanted to hurry and site see. After getting dressed, we wandered around the area close to our hotel and ended up in Times Square, this is what I wore.

I wanted to be stylish and comfortable,so I opted to wear my "I Love My Ethnicity" T-shirt,which has been featured in an old closet post. I layered it with a black cami from Forever 21,I love their cami's, they are such a steal for only $2.00.  You can find this cami here: www.forever21.com. I paired it with a simple black mini skirt that I purchased at H&M, it doubles as a tube top when needed. The skirt was also super cheap for about $5.00. I couldn't find the exact skirt at H&M, but I found a similar one here: www.forever21.com.

I didn't pack many shoe options, so I decided to wear my black oxfords paired with black lacey socks for added flair. They actually turned out to be quite comfy. I bought these lacey socks at a lingerie store,they always have the best leg wear. I found a similar pair here: http://www.sears.com/. My black oxfords are from Aldo, I've actually had them for a few  years.  Here are a pair similar to mine: http://www.aldoshoes.com.

Now on to the fun part, my accessories. I believe they are all past closet post features. I found these earrings at a vendor event in Atlanta during the Bronner Brothers Hair Show, I think they were about $10. My sunglasses are Marc by Marc Jacobs, I purchased them at Macy's many years ago. I like the Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglass line because they are fairly inexpensive for designer sunglasses. Mine were under $100. I found a similar pair at  Nordstrom.  My bracelets are a combination of Stella & Dot, gifts from Ghana and India, and an Ohio State Fair vendor.

Kristin let me borrow the crossbody bag, I didn't have anything to carry other than a clutch, and being in a big city such as New York, it's always best to carry a crossbody! I was thankful she had the bag, because it matched my outfit perfectly.

Saturday I spent most of my day watching Leo and the neighbor install an outside drain and having drinks with the neighbor's other half. We gave moral support while the men sweated through the all day task. Then we had grilled burgers and hot dogs with the neighbors. Finally, Leo and I headed out to Park Street Festival and listened to some live music and people watched. This is what I wore.

The black and white sleeveless stripe dress is another dress Deepika bought me for helping her with a job. It is from Marshall's. The brand is Fun & Flirt. It was $16. I love that it is right on trend for the season, being black and white and striped. Find a similar dress here. The jacket is Gap. I found it at the Ohio Thrift Store a while ago for $10. Find a similar denim jacket here.

The earrings are many years old. I bought them from a street vendor in Harlem, NY. I paid under $10 for them. They are sterling silver so I spent about ten minute cleaning them with an old tooth brush and toothpaste because I realized I didn't have any silver cleaner. Tip: The toothpaste should be white and whitening toothpaste works best, if you ever need to clean silver and find yourself in the same predicament. Brush and rinse.

The black and white leather clutch is new to Kris's Closet. This was my first time carrying it. It was another great find from the Valley Thrift Store outside of Dayton. The brand is Elke Sommer. I paid $1.99 for it. Find a similar clutch here. The belt is also a first time wear. I bought it at a thrift store for $1. I did not find anything similar to post. The bracelets from top to bottom are the Artemis Cuff from Stella & Dot,  the alligator Creature Cuff by Tasha from Nordstrom, the  Kalahari Bangle from Stella & Dot, a wrap snake bracelet that I found on Etsy, and finally the Cara Cross Knuckle Ring also from Nordstrom. The black and white ring, I picked up from a vendor at the Macy's Festival over three years ago. No similar options located for the ring.

My shoes are black and white studded oxfords from zappos. They are a few years old. The brand is Not Too Coy. I selected these for my look because I was going to be outside doing a lot of walking in a crowded area. There is nothing like having on heels, not being able to sit down when your feet hurt and people stepping on your toes. These are very comfortable but they are no longer available. Anthropologie

Welcome to Thailand!!

Yesterday, I opened up my mailbox and found that my March 2013 Anthropologie magazine had arrived. I'm always excited when I receive something other than a bill in the mail, especially when it's from Anthropologie. I love this lifestyle brand so much, that on a boring Saturday afternoon I can be found window shopping, exploring each section of the store. Perusing through this specialty shop quickly lifts my spirits and even takes me out of my reality for the 15 to 20 minutes I spend in there. Now, that's powerful!

All of Anthropologie's products tell a story. The buyers and designers travel the world uncovering special products and collaborating with talented artisans. The March issue takes you on a journey to Thailand. You get a feel for what it is like to experience this rich culture. The model is shown strolling through marketplaces, posing near taxi's in Bangkok, and even near the waterside.

The styling and clothing are impeccable, from the headpieces, the fringe and beaded jewelry, to the embroidered and  printed dresses and bottoms.

Leather Lasercut Accessories

Perforated leather accessories are a huge hit for the Spring. These are 3 of the leather accessories that I fell in love with. The heeled oxfords are absolutely adorable.

      

My Ultimate crush!!

Anthropologie's accessories are what I favor most. How stylish is this Blushing Pearl Bib Necklace, the leather floral detail is amazing. With all of the hand detail in this necklace, it is not cheap at $298, but definitely worth it. I may save my pennies, or maybe I have a new DIY project, hmmm!
