Chris's/Kris's Closet (Christina) Halloween 2014

Chris's Closet

I am Christina, the hot pink of ChristinaKristin. Welcome to my closet!

Last weekend, I celebrated Halloween by going to a costume party  at The Boat House at Confluence Park, in Columbus, Ohio. This venue has such an amazing view, it sits near the Olentangy and Scioto Rivers overlooking the downtown Columbus skyline. Needless to say this was a grown-up affair, and the guests were so creative with their costumes. They actually put the fun in Halloween for me. I snapped a pic with a couple of my favorite costumes.

Guess who I decided to dress up as? Janelle Monae! With my natural hair, brown skin and petite frame, I knew I could pull it off. I was in character so well that people did a double take, even asking if I was in costume. Janelle's uniform is so easy, I think anyone could pull it off. Take a look at what I put together.

My inspiration.

This is what I came up with. I actually recreated her look a few years ago, but my hair was not long enough for the pompadour. I was pretty excited that I had no problems with my hair this time.

Holiday Party Shopping Tips

Create a holiday party look without breaking the bank!
Why spend a lot of money for one holiday season? In this post I will show you how to update your wardrobe with a little sparkle and on a budget. These tips are sure to get you through this seasons holiday parties!

1.Tuxedo Jacket

The tuxedo jacket is a staple item, that can be worn all year long. Pair it with a blouse with a feminine shape and neckline. Blouse options are low cut, cowl neck, or a ruffle neckline.

If you already have a beaded cocktail dress just throw a tuxedo jacket on top for added flair. Throughout the year just pair this tuxedo jacket with skinny jeans for a more casual look.

2. Sparkly heels

Sparkly heels look best with a toned down ensemble, that way your shoes stand out. All eyes will be drawn to your feet so have bare legs or skinny jeans. DIY your own metallic shoes, stop at any craft store and pick up a can of metallic spray of your choice, and spray a pair of heels you no longer wear.

3. Sequin pieces

Wear sequins in small amounts, that way you can wear them from party to party. You can always switch the style up on a sequin clutch or sequin mini skirt by adding a new top, belt, or shoes. Having a sequin dress limits the possibilities to wear it again this holiday season. Go for the less expensive route and get more bang for your buck with a couple sequin pieces and not just one.

4. Hair Accessories

Hair accessories are fun. Anyone can wear them, whether you have long hair, short hair, curly hair, or straight hair. We have to be careful to stay away from hair accessories that  make you look like a teeny bopper.

My suggestions on buying hair accessories:
-Make sure the accessory is well made
-Spend a few extra dollars for a good quality, grown up headband.
-Stick with pearls, satins, beads, and some sequin, not a lot.

5.Statement Jewelry

Statement jewelry can take any outfit from Blah! to WOW!, instantly. Remember the rules of statement jewelry, when wearing a statement necklace, go easy on the earrings and opt for studs, and when wearing statement earrings, toss the necklace.

If you want to layer your arms with bracelets, the chicest thing to do is layer your wrist in odd numbers so 3 or 5, and then wear your cocktail ring on the opposite hand with out the bracelets to balance everything out.

Remember you can always add printed tights to winterize a spring/summer dress.

Have a great time partying this holiday season.

Until next time, Ciao!
