Holiday Party Shopping Tips

Create a holiday party look without breaking the bank!
Why spend a lot of money for one holiday season? In this post I will show you how to update your wardrobe with a little sparkle and on a budget. These tips are sure to get you through this seasons holiday parties!

1.Tuxedo Jacket

The tuxedo jacket is a staple item, that can be worn all year long. Pair it with a blouse with a feminine shape and neckline. Blouse options are low cut, cowl neck, or a ruffle neckline.

If you already have a beaded cocktail dress just throw a tuxedo jacket on top for added flair. Throughout the year just pair this tuxedo jacket with skinny jeans for a more casual look.

2. Sparkly heels

Sparkly heels look best with a toned down ensemble, that way your shoes stand out. All eyes will be drawn to your feet so have bare legs or skinny jeans. DIY your own metallic shoes, stop at any craft store and pick up a can of metallic spray of your choice, and spray a pair of heels you no longer wear.

3. Sequin pieces

Wear sequins in small amounts, that way you can wear them from party to party. You can always switch the style up on a sequin clutch or sequin mini skirt by adding a new top, belt, or shoes. Having a sequin dress limits the possibilities to wear it again this holiday season. Go for the less expensive route and get more bang for your buck with a couple sequin pieces and not just one.

4. Hair Accessories

Hair accessories are fun. Anyone can wear them, whether you have long hair, short hair, curly hair, or straight hair. We have to be careful to stay away from hair accessories that  make you look like a teeny bopper.

My suggestions on buying hair accessories:
-Make sure the accessory is well made
-Spend a few extra dollars for a good quality, grown up headband.
-Stick with pearls, satins, beads, and some sequin, not a lot.

5.Statement Jewelry

Statement jewelry can take any outfit from Blah! to WOW!, instantly. Remember the rules of statement jewelry, when wearing a statement necklace, go easy on the earrings and opt for studs, and when wearing statement earrings, toss the necklace.

If you want to layer your arms with bracelets, the chicest thing to do is layer your wrist in odd numbers so 3 or 5, and then wear your cocktail ring on the opposite hand with out the bracelets to balance everything out.

Remember you can always add printed tights to winterize a spring/summer dress.

Have a great time partying this holiday season.

Until next time, Ciao!

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Kristin) December 9, 2012

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Sunday, one of my good friends had an event at her home called Tea & Treats. It was a jewelry and cosmetics event. I set up ChristinaKristin & Shoetique merchandise and there was one other vendor there who provided jewelry, skincare and cosmetics. It was a nice idea and the food was good. One of the guests took these pictures for me at the party. This is what I wore.
It was raining all day Sunday so I decided my outfit needed to be a pick-me-up. I pulled out my neons and layered for the weather. I have worn the neon green top once before, it is a Mossimo tee from Target. The leopard top I layered on top is vintage Adrienne Vittadini Sport. It is an old thrift store buy. My mini skirt is a neon piece I got from Shoppers World on the west side of Columbus. I have wore the same skirt in another color in my very first Kris's Closet in July. The necklaces I layered are all from Shoetique. I have worn these before in a closet blog. You can find the beaded ones at the store in Town & Country for under $10. My earrings are closet regulars. I wore them alot this past summer. They are from a store in Chicago called Mali. Check out more pieces from them at their site.
https://malijewelry.com/default.asp.
The rest of my accessories have also been seen on closet posts. The purse is a ten year old Louis Vuitton (Papillion) I bought from the Mall at Millenia in Orlando. The style is no longer available. My ring matches my earrings and is from Mali of Chicago. The knit bangle is the Cotton Candy bangle and can be found in our etsy shop at:
My boots are new. I ruined my last pair of brown boots by dropping soybean oil on them, so I ordered a new pair recently from Zappos. They are Chinese Laundry (South Bay) in henna. You can find them online at http://www.zappos.com/chinese-laundry-south-bay-henna?zlfid=111&recoName=zap_brand_page

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Saturday, we had a jewelry event at Danes Dessert Cafe in Short North, Columbus, Ohio. Christina and I premiered our new Heavy Metal Collection. We were both suppose to wear jewelry from one of the two current collections, so I based my outfit around pieces from our Vegas and Heavy Metal collections. I took my pictures at the event. This is what I wore.
Since the event was a holiday event, I decided to try to wear something that read holiday. I also had to be comfortable. The event was from 6 pm until midnight and I was going to be on my feet. So flats were a must.
My Hello Kitty tee reads Naughty or Nice? I got it many years ago from Forever 21. My black blazer is Gibson from Nordstrom. It is an equestrian style and can be found on Nordstrom's site at :

My floral denim is the Diana Skinny Jean by KUT from the Kloth at Nordstrom. Find them online at:

My  boots are the UGG Australia 'Bailey Sparkle' Over the Knee Boot. I bought them last year. They are mostly sold out. I have seen some on ebay and it appears there are still select sizes online at Nordstrom.

My earrings are from our Vegas collection. Click on the link below to go directly to them or you can find them by visiting our shop from the homepage of our blog. They are the Vegas Sparkle Pompom earrings in red. http://www.etsy.com/listing/117339220/vegas-sparkle-pompom-earrings-vegas
I am wearing a combination of bracelets. Two of them are Vegas beaded stretch bracelets and there are bolt cuff bracelets in between, on top and bottom of the Vegas bracelets. This is not the best picture. The sequin clutch is from MJR.
This concludes another Kris's Closet. Thank you so much for stopping by!

Chris' Top 3 Holiday Gift Ideas

With only 3 weeks left until Christmas, the pressure is on to find the perfect gifts for family and friends.  I work in a retail store that sells great gift items during the holiday season, so I thought I'd share my ideas, 3 great gifts for anyone young, old, male or female. Hope this helps with your shopping.

1.Personalized Items

Personalized gifts are great stocking stuffers. Who doesn't want something that is personal to them whether it's an initial charm, a nameplate necklace, zodiac sign, or even a monogrammed pillow. This gift will make anyone feel special, simple, but thoughtful.

Stella & Dot have very adult looking charm necklaces. You choose the base necklace that you want, and then add the charms of your choice. They are very chic. You can find them at www.stelladot.com/christinajovonn. Order by December 17 11am to receive by Christmas.

I like to think of myself as a wine connoisseur, and I would love a personalized hand painted wine glass. At only $16.49, these are a great deal. Or you can take the DIY route and paint a wine glass yourself, but these are so perfect, I would just buy it. Find them at www.sweetthoughtsboutique.com. Order by December 14 to receive by Christmas.

2. ipod/ipad cases

Who doesn't have an ipod or ipad these days?, besides me! There are so many fun cases that you can get for the techie in your life. This is a great functional gift that would definitely come in handy.

www.westelm.com

These felt cases are simple, but not boring. At only $12.99, you can get this for a company gift exchange. Find them at www.westelm.com or if you are in Columbus, visit the west elm store at Easton Town Center.

http://www.etsy.com/listing/94953890/ipad-sleeve-ipad-case-for-ipad2-new-ipad?ref=sr_gallery_18&ga_search_query=ipad&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_page=2&ga_search_type=all

I like the creativity of this case, and you could definitely purchase this for your mom or dad. This case is a little more expensive than the one above, priced at $23.99, but worth it to have a customized item, and you're supporting a small business. Find this one at: www.etsy.com/shop/jiujiu.

3. Magazine subscription

This is a fun gift, because it's not just a one time thing. Every month you will be thought of when that special person opens their mailbox to see their favorite magazine. From Vogue to Forbes magazine, you can find something for all interests.

The fashionista in your life would love a subscription to Vogue or any other fashion magazine. For $19.99, you receive 12 monthly issues via print and tablet, not bad.

Keep your beau in style with a year long subscription to GQ, he will thank you for the sneak peeks of all the sexy models inside!

Hope this fun list helps with your holiday shopping. Happy Holidays!!!

Ciao,Chris!

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, Christina and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!
Saturday was the Ohio State/Michigan game. I got dressed in my Buckeye gear and headed to my parents to watch the game with my father. My guy and I took my parents homemade baked rigatoni, salad and garlic bread. My fella is a great cook. He is the reason I have gained 20 pounds. After the Buckeye's won and finished the undefeated season, we went to see Lincoln. Good movie! I took these photos in front of the house before I left. This is what I wore.
I wore a Buckeye hoodie that I bought the night before at TJ Maxx. It is made by Colosseum Athletics. I love that it has thumb holes in the sleeves. You can find hoodies like this in most sports stores, in store and online. My jeans are Paige Skyline Skinny from Nordstrom.
The vest is faux fur by one of my favorites, Betsey Johnson. It is also from TJ Maxx. It is super warm. It was cold out and that was all I wore Saturday, day and night. I found the vest on bluefly for a bit more than I paid.

vest/p/319662801/detail.fly

My 80's vintage Gucci, I bought at Second Time Around in Grandview, Ohio. Occasionally, I see vintage Gucci on ebay and etsy but the brand has been creating new bags that look like the vintage bags from the 80's. Obviously, the new bag will be more though.
These are a pair of my favorite boots. They are red suede fringe boots by Sam Edelman. They are over-the-knee boots, which are for my short legs, thigh highs. I love them because they are flat but still make so much style impact. I bought them two years ago at TJ Maxx. I found some similar pairs online, one flat boot and one platform. Click on links to view.

My necklace is a Buckeye necklace from the Barnes & Noble on campus. There are lots of places to get these if you don't already own them. I would suggest buying from small business on etsy. Here is a necklace I found from a seller on etsy with many options:

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Tuesday, I had dinner at a friend's. One of my besties and I went to Ocean Club at Easton and had a drink while we waited on our take out order. We went back to the house, ate and chatted. I took my photos in my friend's basement. This is what I wore.

I wanted to be cute but comfortable. I kept it simple.  My top use to be my grandmother's. It is a one piece top that look like a cami and cardigan. It is quite a few years old. My dark denim are Paige (Skyline Skinny) jeans from Nordstrom. I rolled them up to show off my new favorite shoes.
My earrings are vintage button style that I have worn once before in a closet post. I got them in Bucyrus, Ohio at Authentiques.

The purse is Burberry in (Haymarket Check). I bought this bag in New York at the Burberry store almost seven years ago. The style has since sold out but you can find the updated styles at http://www.burberry.com/.
These are my new favorite shoes! They were in my favorite fall trends last month in Style Crush. They are a smoking slippers by Jeffrey Campbell called (Elegant). I wanted to post the link again but they were no longer available. But check out some of his other shoes if you aren't familiar with him! I love his style!

This concludes another Kris's Closet. Thank you so much for stopping by!

Be blessed! Be free! Be fashionable!
Kris,
