Thursday's Inspiration

Twice a week Kristin and I both create collections on a site called etsy. On etsy these collections are called treasuries. The reason why I enjoy doing them so much is because I feel like a fashion editor creating a cohesive display of items for a magazine. I am usually inspired by the collections I create either in my own personal life, or through my designs. So I decided, why not blog a little more in depth about the inspiration behind the treasuries I create.

My goal is to not only inspire you the reader, but also take my inspiration to the next level. I hope you enjoy this series as I much as I enjoy creating it!

*Chris*

Today's treasury is called "Marigold". The inspiration came from the London runways for Spring 2013. Saturated yellows made an appearance in many designer collections. Hopefully this brings a little warmth and sunshine for all you like me, experiencing snowy days!

Style Crush

Every woman has a crush on another woman, whether it's because of her amazing hair, her confidence, or in this case her sense of style. We will be highlighting women whose style we have a crush on, either a celeb or an average Jane. Enjoy!!

As I continue writing this style crush series I am finding that a crush can be on anything, not just a person, or even a store. This week's style crush, is about my crush on a bike. Yes, a bike. But not just any bike a designer Alive + Olivia bike. I was shopping in Target for Christmas gifts, when this beauty caught my eye. I have been wanting a bike for a while now, not just any bike, a cute, stylish bike, like this one.

This past summer my guy friend asked me to go bike riding with him at a local park. I had to refuse because I did not have a bike. When I spotted this bike I immediately text him a picture. His response: "That's not a real bike, you can't really go riding through trails, and hills. That's for you to look cute in front of." Although I laughed my feelings were crushed for about 2 seconds. Now I am on the search to find this bike, which is now available at Neiman Marcus for $249.99, a markdown from the original price $499.99. A steal!

While looking at www.Luckymag.com, I came across this cute girl and her cute bike in the street style section. She inspired to me to A. DIY an inexpensive bike, or B. Find another bike, if my original desire is no longer available. Either way, I will have a bicycle this spring/summer season, and it will be stylish!;-)

Until next time, Ciao!

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Kristin) December 28, 2012

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Friday I went for a ride with the fella. We drove to Dayton and walked around Oregon District. It is my favorite place in the city because it kind of reminds me of the Short North in Columbus. We went into shop after shop and bought each other belated Christmas presents. I got him a vintage CD he raved about and he bought me a new pair of earrings, like I need more earrings. I found a great vintage sweater at the Goodwill in Oregon District that the fella hates because it is the most colorful thing ever. Later we drove to Woodland Lights on Miamisburg Centerville Rd, a place that had a 1/2 mile wooded trail with beautiful holiday lights, horse carriage rides and fair type foods. We saw all there was to see, took a carriage ride then began our search to find dinner. We ended up at a place called Sweeney's Seafood Restaurant. We came back home to Columbus and had drinks at Marshall's then Brother's Drake Meadery. I took these photos in Oregon District and at Woodland Lights. This is what I wore.
This is one of my favorite looks this year and one of the cheapest. I love to mix patterns and textures. The stripe shirt I am wearing and the tweed blazer are both from the Ohio Thrift Store. I probably spent $4 on them together on a 50% off Wednesday this month. I bought them at the same time intending to wear them together. The shirt is New York & Co. and the jacket is Style & Co. The belt is also second hand but I am not sure where and when I got it. My jeans are Mossimo Skinny from Target.

I have talked about pattern mixing before, which is big for the season.
Here are a few tips if you want to try a similar look.

1. Stay in the same color family (Even though you are mixing patterns, pulling the same colors together
keeps the look clean and creates a since of harmony. You don't want to look like you got dressed in the dark.)

2. Play with texture ( It makes the pattern mixture more interesting if the textures are different)

3. Have fun! Mix florals with animal prints or stripes. ( It works, I wore this same jacket, and scarf with a leopard print dress)

The paisley scarf is from Shoetique. I have gotten some great scarves from there this year. They carry a nice selection starting at $5. Check them out if you are local at 3760 East Broad Street.
My earrings are from a vendor at a festival from a couple years ago. I can't recall which one.
My purse and ring are closet post regulars. The Louis Vuitton is the first bag I bought myself ten years ago.
The ring is from a vendor at the Macy's Festival three years ago.
These were my early Christmas present to myself. They are my favorite brand when it comes to flat leather boots, Chinese Laundry. They are good quality, leather and reasonably priced. Find these boots online at:
This concludes another Kris's Closet. Thank you so much for stopping by!

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Kristin) "Christmas" December 25, 2012

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Christmas day I went to my fella's sister's house where his very large family met to celebrate the holiday. We stayed for about an hour then went to my sister's where my cute little family celebrated. I was so excited to give my mom and sister the jewelry I made them and my nephew his game. I also made some killer pasta salad with all our favorite things in it. Later my fella and I went on a hunt for Christmas lights. We found two over the top houses and also stopped to look at lights at the parks downtown. I took my closet photos at Bicentennial Park. This was my Christmas look.
I kept my outfit simple and played with accessories to make my look festive. My grey sweater dress is from the Ohio Thrift Store. I bought it a couple weeks ago on a 50% of day. I don't think I paid more than $3.00 for it. It is very warm but also itchy. The jacket I have worn on closet posts a few times now since the beginning of December. Here is a grey sweater dress I found online on sale and my original jacket from Nordstrom following: http://www.victoriassecret.com/clothing/clear-ance/cable-sleeve-turtleneck-sweaterdress?ProductID=65055&CatalogueType=OLS&search=true

My red sequin beret hat is from Forever 21 a couple holiday seasons ago. Here is one I found online on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/listing/83504294/custom-couture-red-sequin-toddler-adult?ref=sr_gallery_3&sref=sr_e532c2ba8716dcc4cf2a205269404b799005778d891ac3e7fdc37b851ee668bf_1356898153_14098973_red&ga_search_query=red+sequin+hat&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_search_type=all The red tear drop earrings were handmade by a man in Cincinnati. I bought them many years ago. The top silver part of the earrings are watch links. Here is a similar pair from etsy: http://www.etsy.com/listing/21078059/jewel-two-earring-drop-pairs-in-ruby-red?ref=sr_gallery_37&ga_search_query=red+tear+drop+earrings&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_page=6&ga_search_type=all The scarf is from Shoetique. It is a tie-dye red, white and green satin scarf. Check them out if you are in Columbus for your shoe and accessory needs at 3760 E Broad St. My bracelets are a mix of bought and handmade. I bought some last year when I was in Pittsburgh for New Years and the rest are part of my Vegas Collection.
I love ladybugs so I have a couple ladybug cocktail rings. The one I am wearing is by Noir. It is a designer costume jewelry brand. I apologize that there aren't any clear pictures of my ring but here is where you can get one http://www.noirjewelry.com/Rings/LadytheLadybug/515#.UOCia-RZWSo My handbag was my Christmas present from my mom. I got it before Christmas from zappos.com. It is a Michael Kors Hamilton East/West Satchel. There aren't anymore on zappos in this size but you can find it here: http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=586665002&tid=plpl000000&kwid=1&ap=7&mkwid=U4j00a&adid=Cebqhpg+Nqf
My boots are Chinese Laundry flat over-the-knee and made of leather. They are soooo comfortable. Here are some similar ones on sale online: http://www.chineselaundry.com/chineselaundry/boots/tremendous-leathe?color=cognac I love over-the-knee socks with my boots. These socks were 1.99 from Shoppers World on the west side of Columbus.

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Christina) December 15, 2012

Chris's Closet

I am Christina, the hot pink of ChristinaKristinwelcome to my closet!

Friday night, I hung with some girlfriends for a friends birthday. We went to a late dinner at M at Miranova, and then to a couple of clubs. This is what I wore.

I wanted to be casual but stylish so I opted for this striped black and white blazer and skinny jeans. I had been stalking a similar blazer that was available at Target, but I ended up purchasing this one from Burlington Coat Factory for $14.99. I love this blazer because it is actually t-shirt material, so very casual. I found a similar blazer here http://www.moddeals.com/ for $14.80.

My jeans are from Wet Seal, I bought these a couple years ago on the $10 rack. I was not able to find these exact jeans, but there was a pretty good selection at the website.

I opted for my pop color to be neon pink, which I have a lot of. So I paired the blazer with a neon pink tank top that I bought over the summer.

My neon yellow skinny belt is from my favorite place Target, I think I should be a promotional model for Target, because I keep plugging them. LOL I found the same belt for $12.99 http://www.target.com.

This clutch was a birthday gift from Kristin, my first time carrying it. I can only fit like 5 items in here so I had to choose wisely. She purchased it at Shoetique located at 3760 East Broad Street Columbus, OH 43213.

My jewelry is Stella & Dot, I absolutely love this statement necklace, and I get SO many compliments when I wear it. It is the Lillith Fringe necklace, find out how you can get this necklace for free by checking out my site www.stelladot.com/christinajovonn

My shoes are Jessica Simpson, they are super old, I bought them at least 5 years ago. They are the most comfortable heels I own. I couldn't find these shoes or anything similar.

The pink fish net thigh highs are from Hot Topic, they always have fun accessories. I found them on sale for $5.48 http://www.hottopic.com.

Until next time, Ciao!

Kris's Closet

Inspired by some great bloggers, my partner and I decided to start our own blog. In this blog post you will get a glimpse of pieces in my closet, learn where I found them
 and where I wore them.
My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Saturday was my friend Erica's birthday celebration. Some friends and I had dinner at M at Miranova and went to Republic then some after hours. It was a long night. I have not stayed out that late in a long time. I took these pictures at a friend's home at 6AM after the partying. Not my best pictures but here they are. This is what I wore.

The sweater top and skirt set, I bought last week at the Ohio Thrift Store on a half off day. It is blue and black knit. I broke the set up by layering the sweater with a blue and white plaid button-up, that I left untucked. The shirt is many years old and also from the Ohio Thrift Store. I think it is a boys shirt originally.
After days of  suffering from a migraine headache, I decided to wear my glasses to take strain off my eyes. They are real prescription cat-eyes from SEE Eyewear. If you need glasses, it's the place to go for something different. http://www.seeeyewear.com/index.aspx
The necklace I bought at a thrift store in a suburb near Chicago. It is a large zodiac pendant with every zodiac sign and birthstone with the zodiac signs repeating themseles to make up the links of the chain. I located a similar necklace at
http://www.etsy.com/listing/111429693/steampunk-astrological-clock-pendant?ref=sr_gallery_10&ga_search_query=zodiac+necklace+&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_ref=auto9&ga_search_type=all It is a steampunk clock pendant with zodiac signs.

This is my early Christmas present from my mom. It is a Michael Kors 'Hamilton East/West Satchel'. You can find it online at http://www.zappos.com/michael-michael-kors-hamilton-east-west-satchel-black~1
My shoes are round toe pumps by Jessica Simpson. They were a gift from my mom a couple years ago. Find a similar pair at http://www.zappos.com/jessica-simpson-waleo-black#prdInfo My black socks with blue stripes are from Shoppers World on the west side of Columbus.

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Christina) December 13, 2012

Chris's Closet

I am Christina, the hot pink of ChristinaKristinwelcome to my closet!

About 2 weeks ago Kristin and I planned to attend Cocktails at the Conservatory at Franklin Park located in Columbus, Ohio, http://www.fpconservatory.org/. So on Thursday we met up, and this is what I wore.

It wasn't too cold last Thursday, so I opted to wear a sweater with a faux fur vest, and a warm scarf, plus at this point I still hadn't purchased a winter coat, so I improvised!

During the winter season, I generally wear a lot of layers. Although I am a fashionista, I rarely shop for the cold season, honestly, shopping doesn't always fit into my budget. I take my spring/summer wardrobe and winterize it, as I did with this outfit

I am wearing a grey baby doll dress that I purchased from Target about 3 years ago, layered over top is a rose colored sweater that I bought at H & M last year. I was unable to find a similar dress, but I did find a similar sweater here: http://www.hm.com/us/product/06372?article=06372-A

Over top of the sweater I am wearing a faux fur vest that I purchased from American Eagle probably about 4 years ago. I do not shop at American Eagle, but one Christmas I received a gift card to the store and I was determined to use it. I found this vest and a pair of pearl earrings. American Eagle does not sell this vest anymore, but I found a cute animal print vest at http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?Br=F21&Category=Outerwear&ProductID=2030325728&VariantID= for only $22.96 on sale.

My nude lace tights are from Target, they have an awesome selection of legwear.

My multi-colored scarf is from Target, as you can see I am an avid Target shopper. I purchased this scarf a few years ago, but there are some other really cute ones available.

All of jewelry is from Stella & Dot, as I stated before I am an independent stylist for Stella & Dot which is why I am always rocking fabulous jewelry, these are my display samples. Check out my site for more info. My brown clutch is from Ohio Thrift, it was only $1.00 during the half off sale.

These super comfortable wedges are from Bakers, I bought them over the summer. I found a similar pair here: http://www.bakersshoes.com/p-236771-SPENCER-WEDGE.aspx on sale for $49.99.

My tips for winterizing your Spring/Summer wardrobe:

1. Layer with tank tops, sweaters and scarves.
2. Add tights to summer dresses.
3. DO invest in a great pair of boots.
4. Accessorize with belts, purses, hats, shoes, and jewelry. Accessories alone can make your outfit look like 100 bucks!

I hope you enjoyed my closet blog!

Until next time,Ciao!

*Chris*
