Happy Birthday To Me!!!

Thursday was my birthday. I spent most of the day with my mom. Then early in the evening, I went to a Grand Opening for Sidecar Global Catering with Christina. It is a new venture connected to one of my favorite restaurants in Columbus. The food was insanely good. There were three tables of finger foods and desserts. We filled our plates with mac&cheese, lettuce wraps, candied bacon and several variations of the deviled egg. The event space was simple yet beautiful. We had a great time there. We finished the evening at Sidebar, next door to the event. We had a cocktail and went home. After all it was a weekday so I couldn't be out too late. 

My look was 60s Mod inspired. It was a little chilly outside so I layered a dress over a tie blouse. The over the knee boots were a perfect finish to my 60s look. I threw on my cape-coat and gloves for extra weather protection.

Friday I had lunch with my mom and her friend. They are both Libras with birthdays just days apart and they exchange gifts every year. They picked Friday to do their gift exchange and have lunch since my mom has retired and they no longer work together. I was just along for the ride and free food. Plus, I really like mom's friend. We have a common love for culture, food and wine. That evening I went to an art exhibit and reception for Jim Arter at the Cultural Arts Center. He is also a friend to my mom and I met him for the first time. I found myself very inspired by his work especially a piece that I thought would translate extremely well to jewelry. I ended the night with my guy. We had a late dinner at home.

For my look, I wanted to wear mostly black because I wanted to wear my black lipstick. I have had this lipstick for three or more years and have only used it in photo shoots. It came from a Mac Collection that had lots of really dark colors. I can't remember the collection name but the lipstick is Midnight Media with Blackfire Glimmer Glass on top, also from that collection. Yes, I based an outfit around a lip color. The lipstick somehow changed my whole attitude for the day. I could not even smile for these photos; it just felt inappropriate. This is what I wore.

Kristin's Top 5 Spring Trends of 2013!!!

We did our top 5 fall trends last season so it was only right to put in our two cents about the spring season trends. I always get excited when the season changes for many reasons but one reason is a change of wardrobe. Finally it's time to put away our coats, winter boots and shed some clothing. Although many of the fall/winter fabrics are being revisited in the current season and can remain in our closets. I am excited about fur for spring and leather, which seems to make sense in this ever changing weather. It's already been a spring filled with a mix of warm, rainy and winter like days. I think the trends for this season will keep us 

prepared for anything. Here are my top five.

5. Cutouts 

Cutouts surfaced on many runways. Some of my favorite cutout looks were found in the spring collections of Gucci, Sass & Bide, Versace, Saint Laurent and Alexander Wang. Although, I am not certain I will be really embracing this trend, I love to at least look.

4. Monochromatic Brights
Brights worn monochromatic were seen on the runways of designers and houses such as Gucci, Stella McCartney and Etro. I love the idea of this because it can make a short person like myself seem taller and thinner. I am also a huge fan of bright color.

3. Fringe
I love decorative details like fringe! It is so much fun. It reminds me of the 1920's flapper or 80's rocker. Some of my favorite fringe pieces were seen on the runways of Nina Ricci, Versace and Tory Burch.

2. Leather 
I really love this trend! It is my number two because it is a change for the warmer seasons and easy to incorporate even for an avid thrift shopper. I found pieces for my sister and myself for the spring season for under $20 on half off Wednesday. I can't wait to wear my dress that is very similar to the Reem Acra dress below. Some of the other designers and houses that showed leather on the runway were Fendi, Loewe, Balmain and Hermes.

1. Florals
The florals are my favorite this year. I have been collecting pieces the last couple months. I have to admit I was not a fan of the florals until a year ago. I always felt floral patterns were too girly and never wanted to wear them. Now I love to mix the pattern with other prints and add elements to the print to toughen it up. Florals were seen on the runways of Ralph Lauren, Moschino, Chanel, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana.

Kris's Closet

Inspired by great bloggers like Folake of Style Pantry and Tamia of The Style Sample,a month ago we decided to open up our closets to the world as well. We are ChristinaKristin of Columbus,Ohio. We are two women close in age, with two different takes on style and completely different personalities. The best way to describe us if personalities were colors would be red and hot pink. Sunday I finally got to Branstool Orchard in Utica, Ohio to pick peaches with my fella. We picked our peaches and picked up some corn for dinner. Then we went to Kohls to get some clothes for work and our Cedar Point trip the next day. We made dinner and attempted to get to bed early. I took these pictures at Branstool Orchard. This is what I wore.

I wore an faux pearl embellished black beater by Cache with a sheer lace tunic on top of it that I got from Forever 21 years ago. I paired the tops with a pair of Target Mossimo skinny jeans. Check out the links for similar items.

Sunday after a long night of partying in Put in Bay with the fella, I woke up and took a dip in the pool at the hotel before check out. We had breakfast at Dianna's Deli in Sandusky. Then we went looking for fresh walleye to take home for dinner. After we located dinner and put it on ice, we visited a park next to Lake Erie, stopped at a few yard sales, had ice cream at Toft's and finally ended up downtown Sandusky again where we stopped at the Merry Go Round Museum. We took these pictures at the Museum and some by the lake. I wish I would have eaten the ice cream afterward. My belly looked like I was with child, which I am not. Oh well, the show must go on. This is what I wore.

I wore a black, sleeveless, jersey dress by INC. with a red, white, blue and yellow pattern all over it. The dress is a couple seasons old.  My hat is a straw fedora with striped ribbon trim from the men's department of Walmart last summer. I prefer a man's hat because they seem to run bigger. I have a big head and a lot of hair. My shoes are royal blue wedges with cut outs by Zigi Soho. They are repeats from the previous Kris's Closet blog.
