Style Adventures Vol. 9 (Wilmington & Jeffersonville, Ohio)

STYLE ADVENTURES

(Wilmington & Jeffersonville Ohio  10/13)

This is a blog about how to add to your wardrobe using antique shops, thrift stores, yard sales and other venues. We travel Ohio and beyond discovering unique and stylish items we want to share and the places we found them.

Caesar Creek Markets
 7763 Ohio 73
Wilmington, Ohio 45177

Saturday I went to Caesar Creek Flea Market. I have been a couple times around this time last year. I really like this place. You can find anything there from tools, clothing, food, pets and even an eye doctor. Now, I don't think I would see an eye doctor at a flea market but I am sure the doc probably offers great rates. This place is also a great place for people watching.
The flea market is huge! There are vendors inside and outside. You have to go to this place with time to really look around. I always find great boots outside this time of year.
My favorite lot is 5021. The couple who use to own a boot store, has both an inside and outside space with some of the best cowboy boots and shoes I have seen. The best part is, they carry shoes for my size five feet. If you are like me, struggling to find little shoes, come visit the couple. The inside space is 138 in building 1.
With the holidays coming, this flea market is also a great place to find stocking stuffers and gifts for low prices. You can find tons of hair accessories, scarves and cosmetics.
There are seven inside aisles with five officially operating with vendors. Inside the building, I find the best vintage and fashion jewelry. Once you go thru a few strange shops and pass a couple stores full of Confederate flags and accessories, you start finding really friendly people with shops like Terry's at Sapphyre's Closet.
In Sapphyre's Closet, the jewelry is trendy and sold at wholesale prices. I saw items there that I have seen in high end department stores. She carries jewelry sets, necklaces, earrings and more.
One of my favorite pieces was this leopard necklace with tassel. The price was only $6. Sapphyre's Closet will be moving to inside space 144 and open this weekend. Here is what I left the flea market with:

Sapphyre's Closet
left to right: silver fringe and rhinestone, gold and pearl, silver and pearl & colorful peacock
Total $10
Lot 5021
leather & snake skin cowboy boots
Total $24

Mermaid of Tears
1123  Mcarthur Rd. ( Jeffersonville Crossing)
Jeffersonville, Ohio 45177

My fella stopped at Jeffersonville Crossing to find boots. While he browsed I walked over to a shop we passed on the way to the boot shop. Once inside I saw lots of jewelry and pieces of artwork. I was greeted immediately and informed about all the items in the store.
Mermaid of Tears houses a few different jewelry designers' pieces, including pieces by owner Tanya Mincer. She also carries paintings from local artists. A crafter and artist of many medias herself, Tanya also displays and sells revamped baskets, furniture, vases and home decor pieces. Taking recycling to a new level, she paints, adds and takes away from things we may have thrown away or donated because we no longer saw a use for. She takes these items and makes them beautiful and new again. Her added touches bring a new appreciation for a basket or broken down piece of furniture. While I was visiting, she went over her plans for a cabinet in the middle of the room that she was in the process of working on. At the present time it's just a open face old cabinet but it will soon be transformed into a beautiful wine cabinet.
Pieces of Tanya's work, wall hangs, basket and vase
The other artists in the store offer great pieces as well. One piece that caught my eye was this 3D painting.
I enjoyed the bright hand-painted silk scarves.
As a accessory designer myself, I had to check out the mini hats and vintage accessories. I ran across a couple pairs of vintage gloves and tried them all on. With my little hands, vintage seems to fit better because women use to be much smaller.
I left the store with a pair of vintage dinner gloves. They were a little discolored but nothing a little dye can't fix. $2.00 I love them.

If you are in the area, stop in to see Tanya. She has workshops on Thursdays for beading, painting and crafting. I am definitely glad I stopped in.  I'm thinking Mermaid of Tears may be a great home for some of my work one day.

Look for these items in future closet blogs! Fashionista's, antiquers & store owners! Got a store or area I should visit? Leave me a comment.
Be blessed! Be free! Be fashionable!

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Kristin) September 30, 2012

Kris's Closet

Inspired by great bloggers like Folake of Style Pantry and Tamia of The Style Sample, we decided to open up our closets to the world as well. We are ChristinaKristin of Columbus,Ohio. We are two women close in age, with two different takes on style and completely different personalities. My style is usually wild, bold, adventurous and colorful. I would use the same words to describe my personality and life. My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Sunday I spent the day riding around the city and subs of Columbus with the fella. We checked out Baker's Village Garden Center, stopped at a park in Dublin to admire the Chief Leather Lips Monument. We checked out some stores in the Short North then we went back to Dublin and had dinner at Mezzo. I also stopped to check out another piece of art, The Field of Corn in Dublin. I took these pictures at Mezzo. This is what I wore.

I am wearing a lace tunic style top, from the thrift store over a neon pink Target 3/4 length sleeve tee. I belted the lace tee to give it a peplum effect.

I am wearing skinny jeans from Target.
These necklaces both premiered on The Fashion Hot Spot as Style Adventure buys.  The cross I bought last month in Athens at Random House and the choker is from Broadway Antiques Mall in Lebanon. I found some great crosses on etsy like this one at http://www.etsy.com/listing/105330982/soa-fierce-mother-large-cross-necklace?ref=sr_gallery_1&sref=sr_137f0befac32c71f4051f6ad0280b820673ae7d4634924b0c0e61c07c395996c_1349314608_14093829_cross_necklace&ga_includes%5B0%5D=tags&ga_search_query=large+cross+necklace&ga_page=9&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery
My sunglasses are vintage Liz Claiborne.  Here are some glasses that are similar in shape at http://www.zappos.com/raen-optics-pogue-12-cider-tortoise-japanese-gold
I got my belt from the Ohio Thrift Store a while ago. Here is a similar belt I found online.

My purse I have had for many years, before Gaga. LOL! It is 70's vintage. It is the very first mobile phone. Yes, it works once plugged into a phone jack. I found an ivory one online.

My studded suede flats are Fergie shoes. They are so comfortable. They are not this season but they are very much in style. Yay! Here is a similar pair I found online, they are cuter than mine. http://www.victoriassecret.com/shoes/view-all/studded-ballet-flat-colin-stuart?ProductID=70973&CatalogueType=OLS&cm_mmc=CA-_-Shopzilla-_-PRIVATE%20LABEL%20SHOES-_-ZE-290846
This concludes another Kris's Closet. Thank you so much for stopping by!

Style Crush

Hey it's Kristin!!!

5 Fall trends I'm crushing on!!!

A couple weeks ago, Christina did her top five fall trends. I decided this week would be my turn. I loved her list but my list is completely different from hers. This year's fall trends inspired me in a different way. I was drawn to the color for fall this year. I noticed that a lot of the bright colors from the summer carried over into the fall. The accessories are classic but finished in interesting and fun ways. I also loved the emphasis on pattern and texture mixing. Here is my top five.

5. The Fedora!!!

The fedora, known to be a men's hat usually made of felt, hit the runways for the fall for women. It was seen in collections like Juicy Couture, Giorgio Armani, Ann Taylor, Donna Karan & Ruffian. This style of hat is easy to wear because it looks good with just about everything. I have been a fan since high school, so I have a decent fedora collection for all seasons. I have straw ones for summer and velvet, polyester and felt for the fall and winter. This year's fedora is so much more fun!
I have seen the hat in so many interesting colors, sizes, patterns and my favorite, color-blocked.

Here are some of my favs!

5. Goorin Brothers (The Kern County Fedora) Karmaloop $54

6. Hammeren 100% fur felt fedora (It's mens but I love it anyhow) Aldo $44.98
http://www.aldoshoes.com/us/men/mr-bs/accessories/86715583-hammeren/98

4. Smoking Slippers!!!

I have recently become obsessed with smoking slippers. They are THE most popular shoe trend for fall. I am all about them! I am so into flat shoes especially when it's cold and wet out. They have been seen on celebs like Beyonce, Rihanna, LaLa, Kanye West and Alexa Chung. You can find smoking slippers color-blocked, studded, covered in sequins and they even have faces. With all of the variety, I doubt I will be in heels much this season.

Here are some of my favs!

1. Kelsi Dagger (Francie) at Dillards $109

http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/vince-camuto-shoes-lilliana-3-smoking-flats?ID=708827&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results

3. Mixing Patterns & Textures!!!

Since I was in my early twenties, I have been into mixing patterns. Marc Jacobs is best known for that and I am also a big Marc Jacobs fan as well. I fell in love with mixing patterns and Marc when I was doing floor sets and dressing mannequins for Forever 21. This year, I saw pattern & texture mixing in spring collections and the trend has carried over into fall. Designers like Rag & Bone, Dries Van Noten and Chanel were a few who sent models down the runway wearing layers of texture and patterns. Dries Van Noten's collection had garments that even looked a little like patchwork. Skirts and tops had a possible two to four sections of different patterns or colors. This is not a trend for the faint of heart. You have to really know what you are doing and be confident to pull it off.
left to right: Rag& Bone, Dries Van Noten & Chanel

Look 1!!!
This is an easy way to pull together this trend. I just pulled together two patterns with similar colors. I started with the color-block shoe, also a great example of a mixed texture/pattern item and I created an outfit
around the shoe. This works because the colors in the plaid and leopard go well together. Then the leopard infinity scarf and the leopard in the shoe creates a since of harmony.

The look
1. Volcom Mad Plaider Pant at Karmaloop $52

2.Chief Elegant Officer Blazer $47.99

4. Leopard Infinity Scarf at Express $29.90
http://www.express.com/leopard-infinity-scarf-31302-559/index.pro

Look 2!!!
This look is a little more obvious because you have two patterns very close together. I started with the dress, then I found the jacket. Finally I found the accessories and pulled it all together. The shoe is the same color that is in the dress and the studs present another texture. The lace clutch presents an additional texture that works with the dress. The dress is covered in flowers and the lace repeats that pattern.

2.Cobalt!!!

I am a super fan of color. It is part of what wakes me up in the morning. It makes me happy! So I was super excited to see so many bright colors for a season that is usually so dark and drab. I am only going to touch on my favorite two colors in this top five and one of them is Cobalt aka Electric blue. It is vibrant and fun!

Chris's/Kris's Closet (Kristin) September 29, 2012

Kris's Closet

Inspired by great bloggers like Folake of Style Pantry and Tamia of The Style Sample, we decided to open up our closets to the world as well. We are ChristinaKristin of Columbus,Ohio. We are two women close in age, with two different takes on style and completely different personalities. My style is usually wild, bold, adventurous and colorful. I would use the same words to describe my personality and life. My name is Kristin. Welcome to my closet!

Saturday I watched half of the Ohio State game with my dad and watched the other half at The Day Party at Long Street Live with Christina. Afterward I tried to enjoy the party. I am starting to feel like I am too old to be at some of these events. Anyhow, we left the party and Chris and I had dinner at Hyde Park. We ended our night at the Sushi Rock Anniversary Party. I took these photos in front of Hyde Park. This is what I wore.
I wore a black button-up with puffy sleeves. I got it from the Ohio Thrift Store but it is originally from Limited. Black button-ups should be easy to find right now.
My skirt is an ethnic/tribal printed high-low skirt that I bought during a Style Adventures blog in August at Roses Department Store for $7.50. Here is the link to that Style Adventures, if you are interested in that store. http://christinakristinco.blogspot.com/2012/08/style-adventures-vol-4-chesterville.html Here are two very cute ethnic print high-low skirts that I found online. option 1 http://www.mrp.co.za/browse/productDetailColorSizePicker.jsp?productId=11506_00064&categoryId=cat20001&navType=General &
 option 2:http://www.mrp.co.za/browse/productDetailColorSizePicker.jsp?productId=11970_00072&categoryId=cat20001&navType=General
My collarless denim jacket I got a couple weeks ago at The Ohio Thrift Store for $9.99. It is denim jacket weather now so they are in all the stores. Right now I am loving this acid wash denim jacket from ModCloth at http://www.modcloth.com/shop/jackets/totally-boss-jacket
The wicker body chain is a closet blog regular. It was my favorite accessory this past summer. I was asked about it a lot Saturday, so I am going to post the link again. Find this body chain at http://www.candidartaccessories.com/
My purse is the original Papillon by Louis Vuitton.  The rings are from a vendor at The Macy's Music Festival, a couple years ago. The bangles from top to bottom, thrift store, Shoetique, grandma, Shoetique and International Festival. Shoetique has great acessories. Visit the store at 3760 East Broad Street  Columbus, OH 43213. I found some animal print bangles online at http://www.ardenb.com/catalog/product.jsp?categoryId=1440&subCategoryId=1443&productId=58850&utm_source=gan&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=k108283
My strappy bootie sandals are from DSW. They are the Levity Echo Booties. Find them at http://www.dsw.com/dsw_shoes/search/?q=Levity+for+Women&segment=FEMALE

Style Adventures Vol. 8 (Powell, Ohio)

STYLE ADVENTURES

(Powell, Ohio 9/30)

This is a blog about how to add to your wardrobe using antique shops, thrift stores, yard sales and other venues. We travel Ohio and beyond discovering unique and stylish items we want to share and the places we found them.

Yesterday I rode around the city and subs of Columbus. One of my stops was a garden center. I was not expecting to do a Style Adventure but once I got inside, I realized this was a place people needed to know about for many reasons. Thank goodness I always have my camera.

Baker's Villiage Garden Center
 9267 Dublin Rd
Powell, Ohio 43065

I was very tickled at first sight. When we pulled up there was a girl dressed in a jack-o-lantern costume handing out little packages of candy corn. She was adorable! I had to tell her so.

I went into the store, chewing my candy corn and expecting very little. Once in the door I saw a small section of Ohio State University clothing and accessories. This was OSU with flair and funk. It was the kind of stuff I would wear to feel like I was staying true to my style while remaining in the spirit. Imagine lots of rhinestones, crystals and garments that are almost dressy casual but in scarlet and gray.
The store is full of home and garden items. The rooms right now are stocked full of fall, Halloween and Christmas accessories. I love Christmas, so my favorite room was the room full of over the top Christmas ornaments.  You holiday fanatics, who do serious decorating and make every holiday feel so special, if you are't already a Baker's customer, add this place to your list of stops. The Christmas ornaments are some of the best I have seen and there are plenty of pumpkins, gourds and ornamental corn.
You have to love a place with free sweets! They had a table full of cookies, rice crispys and brownies for you to help yourself.
This place loves their buckeyes! I ran across another Ohio State themed area with vests, scarves headbands and buckeye jewelry. I call it grown women sports gear.
Baker's also had an edge on some of the latest trends like this mustard fedora. The fedora is big this season and I have not seen this particular color anywhere.
I was all about the scarf wall! They had so many colors and prints! They also had some really beautiful scarf accessories.
They carry a nice selection of scarf slides. I am even thinking I may need to work one of these into
my wardrobe.
Outside they had more fashion items in greenhouses. These items were on clearance.
I immediately went for a case filled with jewelry and found a bracelet that I needed to have that was 75% off. It was originally $9.99.
Here is the bracelet I bought. I think it's cute but to be honest, I bought it because it was $2.50. Look for it in a future Kris's Closet.

Be blessed! Be free! Be fashionable!
Kris,
